IFT First: Ayana Bio’s plant cell tech offers sustainable solution to nutritional challenges
22 Jul 2025 | Ayana Bio
At the recent IFT First 2025, Ayana Bio’s CEO Frank Jaksch explained that while advances in industrial agriculture have increased crop yield, they can also lead to reduced crop nutrition values, which may impact public health. He said that “happy” plants, grown under stress-free conditions, produce fewer beneficial bioactive compounds. Ayana Bio uses plant cell culture to grow single plant cells to boost nutrient content, such as rosmarinic acid in sage. Jaksch envisions this technology making processed foods more nutritious and resilient to climate disruptions.
