Webinar Preview: Rousselot prioritizes the science of collagen peptides for beauty
27 May 2024 --- Beauty from within is a core focus for Rousselot as the company aims to bolster its Peptan collagen peptides with thorough scientific data that endorse skin beauty and hair strength claims. We catch up with an expert from the collagen and gelatin specialist ahead of their webinar on Wednesday, June 5, who tells us that their scientific research is at the cutting edge, has been conducted across different ethnicities and is expanding its Peptan research for hair benefits across gender.
“Our main strategy is to provide robust and transparent science which shows the benefits of Peptan collagen peptides in the beauty realm, while also adding value by proving and providing additional Peptan holistic well-being lifestyle benefits; from gut health to sleep, active lifestyle and more. All of which add to the concept of healthy beauty,” Florencia Moreno Torres–McLaverty, global business development manager, health and nutrition at Rousselot, tells Nutrition Insight.
Peptan collagen peptides are bioactive peptides that can be easily digested. They are highly bioavailable and effectively deliver specific benefits to skin tissue. Rousselot’s scientific research provides nutricosmetic manufacturers with the information to create clear differentiation for their products in a competitive marketplace.
Torres–McLaverty notes: “The science we are providing is definitely new generation. We are not only confirming previous findings but also considering new factors such as both genders in hair research, including face cream as a control in a wrinkle reduction study, applying the latest technologies to measure hydration and elasticity — key factors in skin beauty.”
Meanwhile, Rousselot launched its Nextida platform of collagen peptide compositions backed by rigorous scientific research and designed to target specific health benefits at Vitafoods Europe 2024. According to the company, the platform is set to revolutionize the landscape of natural health and wellness products through its extensive research into the “language” of collagen.
Hydration for cell activation
Skin cells or fibroblasts’ activity declines after 30 and collagen density decreases. At this point, signs of aging such as wrinkles, dehydration and a decrease in firmness, begin to set in.
Peptan has been observed in several scientific studies to increase skin collagen density, hydration and elasticity, which can help delay the previously mentioned aging effects.
“Our premium collagen peptides brand sets the global standard for quality, versatility, sensory performance (neutral taste and odor) and instant solubility. Responsibly sourced from bovine, porcine and fish origins and underpinned by robust, innovative research, Peptan is an ingredient truly backed by science,” says Torres–McLaverty.
Rousselot partners with third-party research centers to improve the quality of the science for collagen peptides and beauty within the category. The company says it will continue to research the collagen molecule while studying new potential benefits that might add to the “healthy beauty lifestyle,” where beauty transcends into holistic well-being, including mobility, active lifestyle, gut comfort, sleep and cognitive performance.Rousselot is branching out the focus of its Peptan collagen peptides to a broader consumer audience.
“We keep on adding to the body of evidence around collagen peptides functionality in beauty. What differentiates Peptan is the level of science, our golden standards while conducting research and full transparency, always committed to being truthful to our customers and consumers,” Torres–McLaverty explains.
“Some scientific innovations include the publication of pioneering research in the hair area that aid against age-induced hair loss; using pre-digested Peptan to mimic the body’s digestive process and exploring effects in both male and female hair follicles — a kind of research that had not been conducted before in the field.”
Endorsed through science
More than ten years of research by Rousselot shows that the oral intake of Peptan collagen peptides firms skin improves the appearance of hair, increases skin density, improves skin elasticity and hydration and reduces wrinkle visibility.
A placebo-controlled study on 99 Caucasian women between 40 and 65 years showed that consuming 10 g of Peptan fish (F) for 12 weeks significantly increased skin density compared to placebo. Similar results were observed in a study with 85 Chinese women after taking 5 g of Peptan porcine (P).
Another study assessing Peptan’s impact on skin elasticity observed a 7% improvement after four weeks of oral supplementation of 5 g Peptan P compared to the placebo. This result was confirmed after supplementation of various Peptan F dosages for 12 weeks in another study featuring 40 Caucasian women between 35 and 48 years of age, using gold-standard elasticity-measuring technology.
A daily dose of 10 g of Peptan P significantly improved skin hydration in 33 Japanese women within eight weeks. Another study featuring 85 Chinese women demonstrated that daily supplementation with only half the dose (5 g) of Peptan P was sufficient to increase skin hydration. Rousselot’s research also shows that Peptan can reduce wrinkle visibility in women. One study observed that the ingredient works faster against wrinkles than using a face cream alone.
Peptan is also recommended as a solution to nurture healthy hair. A recent study on hair follicles harvested tissue from six men and women between 27 and 59 years. In vitro digested Peptan beef (B) mimics the body’s digestive process, increases the amount of active stem cells in the hair follicle and inhibits its death.
Since the aging process is linked to a decline in hair follicle stem cells, the findings suggest that Peptan may positively address age-induced hair loss by reinforcing the stem cells and sustaining hair follicle health.
In addition, the demand for high-quality collagen ingredients and solutions is surging as science continues to reveal the nutrient’s health effects across numerous body systems. Usually touted for its joint health and beauty-from-within benefits, recent studies reveal new areas for collagen creations in the active and sports nutrition categories.
