19/04/05 Tea may be a simple means of preventing diabetes and related complications, including cataracts, a new research suggests.
The report is scheduled to appear in the May 4 print issue of the American Chemical Society's Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.
Chemical composition of diabetic rats' blood and eye lenses was monitored after they were fed green and black tea to for three months. The researchers found that both teas decreased glucose levels, which in turn affects other biochemical pathways that accelerate diabetic complications such as cataracts.
