Although most healthy adults can recover completely within a week, some people can develop a form of kidney failure called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS).

21/09/07 Stop & Shop Supermarkets, following a voluntary recall by Dole Fresh Vegetables, a division of Dole Food Company, Inc, announced it has removed from its shelves all salad bearing the label "Dole Hearts Delight" because of possible E.coli 0157:H7 contamination. Dole announced the voluntary recall on September 17, 2007. No other Dole salad products are involved.
Upon being notified of the voluntary recall, Stop & Shop immediately removed all production codes of the Dole Hearts Delight salad mix from its stores. The affected product bears the label "Dole Hearts Delight" with a UPC code of 071430-01038 and a "best if used by" date of September 19, 2007, and a production code of "A24924A" or "A24924B" stamped on the package. The "best if used by" date can be located in the upper right hand corner of the front of the bag. The salad is packaged in 8-ounce bags.
To date, neither Dole nor Stop & Shop has received reports of illnesses associated with consumption of these products. Customers who still may have any of this product should discard it and/or return to any store for a full refund.
Symptoms of E.coli O157:H7 exposure could include stomach cramps and diarrhea, including diarrhea with bloody stools. Although most healthy adults can recover completely within a week, some people can develop a form of kidney failure called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). HUS is most likely to occur in young children and the elderly. If any of the described symptoms are exhibited, medical attention should be sought.
