Solae Launches Soy Protein Multigrain Nugget
SUPRO Nugget 173 is comprised of 60 percent soy protein and 40 percent multigrain (rice, oat, and barley.) This is the first soy nugget on the market that combines protein and grains in a single nugget.

Oct 27 2010 --- Solae was the first to introduce soy protein nuggets (or crisps) into nutrition bars, helping to build a category that is now more than a billion dollars in sales and growing, thanks to the popularity of high protein bars. Taking the soy protein nugget to new levels, Solae is introducing a new protein multigrain nugget -- SUPRO Nugget 173 -- using patent-pending technology for use in a variety of products including bars, snacks, baked goods, cereal, and more.
SUPRO Nugget 173 is comprised of 60 percent soy protein and 40 percent multigrain (rice, oat, and barley.) This is the first soy nugget on the market that combines protein and grains in a single nugget.
"We are able to leverage our extensive soy protein expertise, extrusion capabilities, and application knowledge to create offerings that enable us to move into new and exciting market segments," said Michele Fite, vice president of global marketing and strategy and specialty business. "This new soy protein nugget provides food manufacturers with the opportunity to deliver more nutritious, great-tasting products to consumers."
When Solae conducted consumer testing through its sensory science program, consumers indicated an overall liking of 7.3 on a 9 point scale for a multigrain protein bar product concept using SUPRO Nugget 173. Additionally, 60 percent of consumers responded that they would be "definitely" or "very much" interested in purchasing this product concept.
Solae SUPRO Nugget 173 provides the following benefits to food manufacturers:
• Ease of use with delivery of protein and grains in a single nugget
• Formulation flexibility
• Natural shape provides a different texture in comparison to other sources of protein and grain.
In 2009, Solae introduced another new nugget -- SUPRO(R) Nugget 570 -- the first and only nugget in the marketplace that is 90 percent protein on a dry weight basis, making it the highest soy protein containing nugget currently on the market. This nugget can be used for nutritional bars, snacks, bakery products, cereals and more.
