Shaklee secures exclusive Liquid BioCell Collagen license for joint and skin health
Multi-level marketing health and wellness platform Shaklee is now the exclusive licensee for BioCell Technology’s Liquid BioCell Collagen through its Liquid Collagen Acquisition subsidiary. The deal secures the formulation rights to the patented, multi-component nutritional ingredient designed to support skin, joint, and connective tissue health.
The clinically studied dietary solution is self-affirmed GRAS (generally regarded as safe) and comprises naturally occurring hydrolyzed collagen type II peptides, chondroitin sulfate, and hyaluronic acid in a non-blended matrix.
The ingredient is non-GMO and free of gluten, soy, shellfish, fish, egg, milk, peanuts, and sugar. It is produced exclusively in the US and Germany.
“BioCell Technology congratulates Shaklee Corporation and Liquid Collagen Acquisition on being the winning bidder for the assets of Modere,” says the company in a statement.
“The BioCell Technology team is excited to work with Shaklee Corporation and Liquid Collagen Acquisition as its exclusive licensee to bring Liquid BioCell Collagen to the world.”
Building on Modere acquisition
Shaklee Corporation’s approach to the Liquid BioCell Collagen product line involved a strategic two-step process. Initially, on May 23, 2025, Shaklee — through its Liquid Collagen Acquisition subsidiary — acquired most of Modere’s business after it closed in April 2025.
Modere has developed various Liquid BioCell product lines — including Liquid BioCell Life, Pure, Skin, and Immune — that combine the BioCell Collagen with other complementary ingredients like superfoods, vitamins, or specific formulations for targeted benefits.
This acquisition immediately granted Shaklee the rights to Modere’s trademarks, patents, and formulas for products containing Liquid BioCell Collagen, allowing them to begin selling these items on their website as early as May 28, 2025.
The new exclusive licensing deal announcement formalizes a long-term relationship with the proprietary ingredient’s source, ensuring direct and steady access to the core patented ingredient for the potential applications in future launches.
Commenting on the licensing deal, Roger Barnett, chairman and CEO at Shaklee, adds: “By bringing this groundbreaking, clinically validated collagen technology into our Shaklee family, we’re not just adding a product — we’re expanding our promise to support wellness at every age and stage of life.”
The licensing agreement is in effect immediately. All products are available to purchase through Shaklee’s network of ambassadors and on Shaklee’s website.
At the recent 2025 Natural Products Expo West trade fair, Nutrition Insight spoke with Douglas Jones, BioCell Technology’s global sales and marketing manager, about a new gummy concept featuring the company’s BioCell Collagen Extra Refined Palatable. This refined version is specifically engineered for enhanced sensory delivery, making it ideal for various product applications.
