Rousselot to showcase collagen solutions for holistic well-being at Vitafoods
21 Apr 2023 --- Darling Ingredients’ health brand, Rousselot, has prepared a holistic spread of collagen solutions and gelatins that streamlines the production of trending supplement delivery formats for the Vitafoods trade show next month.
“As the holistic well-being megatrend keeps getting a hold of consumer interest, brands are placing a greater emphasis than ever on adding ingredients with multiple benefits into their products,” Florencia Moreno Torres, health & nutrition global business development manager at Rousselot tells NutritionInsight.
“Consumers are now paying closer attention to the origins of their supplements. Therefore, brands that are transparent about their production processes and use high-quality, sustainably sourced and upcycled ingredients are best positioned to gain customer’s trust.”
Portfolio with scientific backing
One of the key solutions Rousselot will spotlight at stand I114 is its collagen peptides brand Peptan, which taps into the holistic wellness trend. Some of the proposed benefits include helping to maintain mobility, boosting “beauty-from-within and improving sports recovery.
“At Vitafoods 2023, we invite attendees to discover the ‘game-changing’ benefits and trending applications of our collagen and gelatin portfolio,” says Moreno Torres. “In particular, we will focus on the science-backed benefits of our products and how they can help brands deliver cutting-edge solutions to the needs of today’s consumers.”
Moreno Torres will host an expert session titled “Tapping into holistic well-being with collagen peptides” to demonstrate how to enhance manufacturers’ value proposition at the New Ingredients Theatre, E70, at 2 pm on Tuesday, 9 May.
Advances in formats, applications, sourcing and sustainable practices in the collagen space also took center stage at the FiE and HiE 2022 trade show and are driving innovations as the mobility and beauty-from-within trends continue.3D gummies and peppermint-flavored sugar-free gummies will be available as test samples.
Joint health matrix
Colartix, a hydrolyzed cartilage matrix for joint health made from naturally occurring collagen peptides and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), is another key highlight of Rousselot’s for Vitafoods 2023.
The product demonstrated a decrease in joint discomfort across gender, age and sport intensity in a recent consumer study. These include a peach-flavored “Beyond Beauty” drink featuring Peptan and probiotics and mobility gummies featuring Colartix.
“We are very excited to announce the publication of a new, peer-reviewed digitally-conducted clinical study investigating the effectiveness of our Colartix hydrolyzed cartilage matrix (HCM) supplement – also a key highlight at Vitafoods – in reducing joint discomfort,” says Moreno Torres.
“This randomized clinical trial, performed in a real-life setting using a mobile app, has shown its ability to decrease joint pain.”
The company will also showcase its gelatin solutions, Stabicaps, designed to create more stable softgels and SiMoGel, a gelatin technology solution that enables the production of nutraceutical gummies in a starch-free environment.
3D gummies, peppermint-flavored sugar-free gummies and “gummy caps” – or center-filled gummies – made possible by SiMoGel will be available as test samples.
Rousselot’s formulation experts will be available to discuss these solutions with supplement, capsule, and confectionery manufacturers and how they can unlock good taste, convenience, new shapes and naturalness.
Meanwhile, Danish-based Økolyst showcased its biodynamic products, including its bone broth, an entirely Scandinavian product using agriculture from Danish and Swedish farms, at the Free From Functional Foods Expo in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, last year. The health shots are made from ginger and turmeric from Peru and later locally produced in Denmark.
