Plant-based indulgence: FrieslandCampina Ingredients to spotlight Plantaris-based pudding and RTD at Fi Europe
17 Nov 2022 --- During this year’s Food Ingredients Europe (Fi Europe), in Paris, France (Dec 6 - 8), FrieslandCampina Ingredients will introduce its latest concepts, a plant-based ready-to-drink (RTD) application and a protein-packed pudding. The two products are formulated with its Plantaris Pea Isolate 85A to boost protein levels and meet the demand for healthy indulgence.
The company will also demonstrate the potential for innovation in gut health supplements, emphasizing how its prebiotic ingredient, Biotis GOS-OP High Purity, makes creating convenient and on-trend supplement formats simpler.
Speaking with NutritionInsight, Vicky Davies, global marketing director of performance, active and medical nutrition at FrieslandCampina Ingredients, delves deeper into why the company is showcasing these two solutions stating, “we spotlight these solutions because there is a clear demand for efficacious products in gut health and plant-based spaces.”
She explains that health-conscious consumers are looking to boost their health and overall well-being with tasty and convenient food, beverages and supplements that support their well-being goals.
“Furthermore, our new ‘good to gut’ concepts have been designed to overcome common challenges that can arise with prebiotic formulations by utilizing Biotis GOS-OP High Purity, a solution specifically designed to support supplement innovation.”
Boosting protein
The applications, created with the company’s innovative Plantaris Pea Isolate 85 A, have been designed to cater to consumers’ demand for healthy plant-based indulgence. It aims to show how brands can create protein-rich products that deliver on both taste and nutrition.
“Utilizing our Plantaris Pea Isolate 85A, these new applications can deliver up to 10% of high-quality protein per serving, helping consumers meet their fitness and wellness goals while supporting muscle protein synthesis,” Davies states.

“They also allow brands to capitalize on the growing demand for healthy indulgence, satisfying cravings while offering a source of high-quality nutrition – all in one plant-based solution.”
FrieslandCampina Ingredients’ Plantaris range has been designed to overcome common plant protein formulation challenges with a neutral taste and light cream color – meeting flexitarian’s desires for tasty and nutritious plant-based solutions, explains Davies.
“Historically, common formulation challenges have hampered innovation for efficacious, delicious gut health products and nutritious, tasty plant-based applications – our latest ingredient innovations change that; but the proof is in the pudding,” Davies quips. “That’s why we’re showcasing our ingredients in trending application formats.”
Prebiotic solutions for gut health
The newest prebiotic supplement innovations from FrieslandCampina Ingredients, including the “Good to Gut” candies, powder sticks and tablets, will also be showcased during Fi Europe at the New Product Zone.
Biotis GOS-OP High Purity, specifically created to support prebiotic supplement innovation, gives a greater concentration of accessible GOS than other prebiotics on the market, typically approximately 94%.

Therefore, brands will be able to create smaller and more convenient prebiotic supplements, which formulation challenges have traditionally hampered.
Healthy indulgence
FrieslandCampina Ingredients explains that sweet-toothed consumers are increasingly substituting healthier, ‘better-for-you’ versions of products for their usual treats. Furthermore, 85% of consumers believe that a healthy diet can include treats, it reveals.
More than half of those who swap their usual snacks for high-protein alternatives do so because they provide a healthy indulgence.
While consumers are actively swapping out their usual treats for “better-for-you” options, they’re still looking for a moment of healthy indulgence, Davies explains.
“Protein remains a popular choice in the healthy indulgence category, as does chocolate, which is why we combined the two in our new applications.”
“FrieslandCampina Ingredients has been a longstanding presence at Fi Europe. It offers us the opportunity to connect with our customers, discuss new opportunities and see how the industry is coming together to solve some of its biggest challenges,” she concludes.
