Persona expands line of personalized supplements to boost sleep, energy, stress and immunity

19 Nov 2020 --- Nestlé Health Science’s personalized vitamins subsidiary, Persona Nutrition, is expanding its portfolio with a new line of supplements. The launch targets consumers looking to achieve “whole-body health and wellness” and addresses sleep, energy, stress and immunity in novel capsule designs.

The new supplements were developed based on consumer demand and feedback, as well as ongoing consultations with the company’s medical advisory board and nutritionists.

They feature unique nutrient combinations in new capsule formats that attract consumers’ attention with their colors and are easy to swallow.

Speaking to NutritionInsight about the supplements’ R&D process, Jason Brown, founder and CEO, Persona Nutrition, explains that the company completed nutritional assessments from consumers globally – in addition to feedback from customers through its nutritionist support program.

“We analyzed this data and identified reasons why people aren’t sticking to their daily vitamin program as well as the top health concerns, which continue to be sleep, energy, stress, weight loss and immunity,” Brown adds.

Personalization is on the fast track, with many key companies gravitating toward more tailored solutions. In fact, Tailored to Fit is Innova Market Insights’ third Top Trend for 2021.

“While I feel there’s more work to be done in terms of educating consumers about the benefits of a personalized approach to nutrition, it’s definitely gaining traction,” Brown comments.

Backed by consumer research
The additions complement 80 other high-quality vitamins and supplements available through Persona’s personalized nutrition subscription service.

The vitamins are based on consumer feedback and ongoing consultations with the medical advisory board and nutritionists.

Consumers can visit the company’s webpage to complete a free online nutritional assessment, which leads to their personalized vitamin recommendations.

“As we continue to lean on the latest nutrition science, the expertise of our Medical Advisory Board and our on-staff nutritionists, we develop new vitamins and supplements for health-conscious consumers,” says Tamara Bernadot, co-founder and chief nutrition officer, Persona Nutrition.

“We know it’s difficult for consumers to remember to take their daily vitamins, so one of the features of our new supplements is their attractive and attention-getting appearance. We wanted vitamins to scream ‘take me!’ from across the room in the hope they catch a person’s attention, so they remember to take their daily vitamin packs,” she highlights.

Immunity and personalization
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is bringing increasing attention to health, well-being and especially immunity, according to Brown.

“Consumers want to incorporate more preventative health measures into their lives and since immunity is optimized through sleep, reduced stress, moderate exercise and, of course, proper daily nutrition, these individuals are turning to high-quality vitamins and supplements.”

“They need a partner in their daily nutrition – that’s where personalized nutrition comes in,” Brown explains.

Ongoing anxiety stemming from COVID-19 will encourage consumers to prioritize their immune health into 2021. Innova Market Insights has pegged In Tune with Immune as another of its Top Trends of the year ahead.

According to a 2020 Innova Consumer Survey, six out of ten global consumers are increasingly looking for food and beverage products that support their immune health, with one in three saying their concerns about immune health increased in 2020 over 2019.

Supplements for every need
The new products address an array of demands, ranging from beauty and sleep to immunity and even to support bariatric surgery.

The products feature unique nutrient combinations in new capsule designs to help consumers achieve optimal wellness.Within the personal care realm, Persona offers a duo of Beauty Wake and Beauty Sleep. Beauty Wake is a small translucent pink capsule that consists of horsetail extract, magnesium and floating hyaluronic acid, along with other ingredients for energy support. Beauty Wake helps maintain health from the inside out.

The Beauty Sleep supplement contains ingredients to help promote a more stress-free state. This formula contains collagen, horsetail extract, magnesium, floating hyaluronic acid and L-theanine, and is a complementary supplement to the Wake formula.

Also on offer is the Skin Probiotic, which features a mix of clinically studied probiotics and carotenoids like beta-carotene, lycopene and astaxanthin to support sun-exposed skin, promote hydrated skin and support a healthy scalp.

Immune Support
Persona’s Immune Support supplement uses an ingredient blend of botanicals, including AP-Bio, astralagus, reishi mushroom extract and beta-glucans, to help support the immune system.

In a randomized clinical trial, supplementation with 200 mg of AP-Bio andrographis botanicals for five days promoted immune function and supported respiratory comfort.

Together, the ingredients harness the power of mushroom derived compounds, which have been used for centuries for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Catching more restful sleep
Persona developed two updated melatonin products as part of its Sound Slumber Program.

“By far our most popular launch is our Sound Slumber Program, which features two updated melatonin products that are sent in a rotating combination, keeping the body’s own ability to make melatonin in check. The snow globe capsules consist of clear liquid and suspended white melatonin beads to represent a drifting-off sensation,” Brown notes.

• Melatonin-3mg: For Slumber Program users, the melatonin 3 mg kick-starts the body and mind in the first 28 days to promote better sleep.
• Melatonin-500mcg: The melatonin 500 mcg formula is the Sound Slumber Program’s second phase and provides a lower dosage of melatonin to help regulate the body’s internal clock and maintain consistent sleep.

Rounding off the offerings
Offering a holistic boost, Foundation Multi is designed to reduce nutrient gaps, is packaged in a new purple capsule that is easier to swallow. The purple veggie capsule is void of artificial colors or dyes and is sustainably sourced from purple carrots.

Finally, Bariatric Multi was developed following the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) guidelines. Persona’s newly formulated bariatric program features a multivitamin in a vegetarian softgel.

It offers the nutrient levels these patients need. as well as calcium citrate and iron formulated with vitamin C. It is designed to be taken three times per day – all are packaged in individual tear-off pouches that can be easily taken on the go.
