Nutriventia’s turmeric extract slashes post-exercise joint pain in study
05 Aug 2021 --- A study conducted on Nutriventia’s TurmXTRA 60N found that the turmeric ingredient can improve post-workout joint pain.
TurmXTRA 60N is a water-dispersible turmeric extract containing 60 percent natural curcuminoids. Taking 250 mg once a day for three months was found to effectively improve joint comfort, performance and mobility in healthy adults.
“Our observations of the turmeric market showed that while enhanced turmeric extracts were making claims of high absorption and bioavailability, a corresponding reduction in overall doses was not available for consumers to benefit,” Anand Godbole, assistant vice president of marketing at Inventia, tells NutritionInsight.
“Our objective is to provide benefits to consumers by reducing the total number of pills to have efficacy. TurmXTRA 60N reduces the daily requirement from three or four pills for a claim validated full dose to just one pill a day.”
“This study is pivotal since it showcases the benefits of a small dose of TurmXTRA 60N in healthy subjects.”
The study was conducted over 90 days and examined 96 healthy adults who experienced chronic knee pain after physical exertion. The study was published in Clinical Pharmacology: Advances and Applications.
Joint health in focus
The study participants reported clinical improvement in efficacy variables at the 45-day mark. These measurements were conducted on test parameters that evaluate aspects of joint mobility and perception of pain.
The findings build on a preclinical study, which established that TurmXTRA 60N has ten times higher bioavailability than standard turmeric extract in an equal dose format.
A separate pharmacokinetic study in healthy subjects demonstrated the bioequivalence of a 250 mg dose of TurmXTRA 60N to 1575 mg standard turmeric extract with 95 percent curcuminoids.
“Our research has shown that it is possible for improvements in bioavailability to be made without the use of chemical surfactants and also substantially reduce the dose of the ingredient in the supplement naturally.”
“We do believe this should result in some direction by regulatory agencies concerning the use of synthetic surfactants and excipients in the natural product industry,” adds Godbole.
A growing concern
