New Products Formulated With EPA/DHA from Fish Oil

19 Dec 2008

The inclusion of Omega-3 EPA/DHA from fish oil provides many health benefits for consumers and has been scientifically linked to improving heart health, brain health, normal growth and development and overall health and well-being.

19/12/08 Ocean Nutrition Canada Limited (ONC), supplier of MEG-3 brand Omega-3 EPA/DHA from fish oil to the food and dietary supplement industries, has announced that A. Lassonde has re-launched their Oasis Health Break Strawberry and Kiwi Fruit Juice Cocktail to include the MEG-3 Omega-3 EPA/DHA healthy ingredient from fish oil.

This is the fourth Oasis juice to be fortified with the MEG-3 Omega-3 EPA/DHA ingredient. The others are the Oasis Blueberry-Concord Grape Juice with Omega-3, Oasis Orange Juice, and Fruit Fusion single serve.

The Oasis Health Break Strawberry and Kiwi Omega-3 Fruit juice has won many awards, including three major awards at the Canadian Grand Prix New Product Awards organized by the Canadian Council for Grocery Distributors (CCGD) for Best New Beverage, Healthy Innovation New Product Award/Special Best Innovation Award for health products, as well as Special All Canadian Best New Product Award.

“We are very excited that Lassonde has added our MEG-3 ingredient to an additional juice product.” Lori Covert, Vice President of Marketing & Communications at ONC continued “The fact that Lassonde has taken the initiative to include a fish source of Omega-3 EPA/DHA in yet another product is very positive. We believe that, as more and more consumers are educated on the health benefits of both EPA and DHA, many other food and beverage companies will switch from plant sourced Omega-3 (ALA) to fish sourced Omega-3 (EPA/DHA) in order to meet their nutritional commitments to their consumers.”

Caroline Croteau, Brand Manager at A. Lassonde said “We recognize the value of Omega-3 from fish oil and are committed to providing nutritional value to our consumers. We are dedicated to listening to our consumers and their needs. This is a great tasting, award winning juice that also provides great nutritional value.”

Meanwhile in the UK Allied Bakeries has re-launched their ‘Kingsmill 50/50 with Omega 3’ packaging and have included the MEG-3 brand.

‘Kingsmill 50/50’ and ‘50/50 with Omega 3’ breads were launched in 2007 in grocery chains throughout the UK. Kingsmill’s 50/50 range is designed to ‘get goodness into kids’ offering the delicious taste of white bread, with nutritious wholegrain goodness. With the inclusion of Omega-3 EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) from fish oil into ‘50/50 with Omega 3’ Kingsmill is also able to help families top up their Omega-3 intake.

“We are very excited to continue our relationship with an important, successful bakery, such as Allied Bakeries in bringing highly nutritious products to the table.” Lori Covert, Vice President of Marketing & Communications at ONC continued “Companies like Allied are helping to address the global Omega-3 EPA/DHA deficiency by providing an easier and more convenient way for parents to get Omega-3 into their family’s diets.”

“It’s important for us to bake products that provide nutritional value.” Sarah Hilliar, Senior Brand Manager at Allied Bakeries continued, “We recognize that fish oil provides both Omega-3 EPA and DHA, and that adding the MEG-3 brand to the packaging helps parents recognize they are getting a trusted source of Omega-3 for their children and their families.”
