Marketing authorization for Mobilee ingredient strengthens Bioiberica’s position in Brazil
14 Jan 2020 --- The Health Regulatory Agency of the Brazilian Ministry of Health (ANVISA) has provided marketing authorization for Mobilee – a Bioiberica patented ingredient – as a novel food ingredient in the country. The authorization strengthens Bioiberica’s market positioning in Brazil, a strategic market for the company that is already present in the joint health segment with its native type II collagen, b-2Cool. Now available for use in food applications across Brazil, manufacturers across the country are able to meet the growing consumer demand for products that support joint health and mobility.
“The launch of Mobilee in Brazil presents a new alternative to the nutraceutical and food industry, providing an innovative solution that can be used for the development of new supplements and the fortification of food and beverages for the improvement of joint health,” Jaume Reguant, Director of Healthcare at Bioiberica, tells NutritionInsight.
Brazil marks a key market for Bioiberica in this sector, he continues. “Thanks to the strategic partnership with our Brazilian partner Ayalla, we will continue to meet the needs of thousands of people who look to maintain healthy joints,” he continues. Ayalla is a primary supplier of raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry. The company has branched out into the flavor, cosmetics, veterinary, food and fragrances industries.
Designed to maintain joint health and muscular function, Mobilee is derived from rooster comb extract that is rich in hyaluronic acid, collagen and polysaccharides. Its nutritional characteristics and safety have been tested in six preclinical trials and five randomized clinical trials over the last 12 years, the company affirms.
Mobilee is authorized as an ingredient for food supplements and functional foods by central global authorities. These include:
EU: Novel Food.
US: Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) status.
Canada: Medicinal supplement.
India: Functional ingredient.
Indonesia and Taiwan: Nutritional supplement.
Australia and New Zealand: Medicinal supplement and non-traditional ingredient for use in functional foods.
“In addition, regulatory barriers in Brazil encourage products to meet the highest quality standards, which ensures that ingredients are safe and effective. Brazil is a dynamic and growing market that sees constant innovation. Meanwhile, the markets in Spain and other European countries are more stable and experience more moderate growth,” Reguant explains.
The benefits Mobilee can offer go far beyond the advantages offered by hyaluronic acid alone. Taking just 80 mg per day for at least two months preserves joint health and muscular function, he highlights.
Within the mobility space, data shows that glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate have been the most widely used ingredients for supporting joint health for more than a decade, Reguant previously told NutritionInsight. Now, following recent innovation and research in the joint health arena, products containing hyaluronic acid and native type II collagen are among the most popular, he adds.
The health benefits of collagen are already well established within the industry and touch not just on the mobility sector, but also the sports nutrition and the beauty-from-within spaces. Research has also shown that collagen can visibly reduce common signs of skin aging in women.
“Many of the ingredients that are now widely used to support bone and joint health, such as collagen, are required at high dosages to have any therapeutic benefit. This has led manufacturers to consider using new ingredients, or combinations of ingredients, that will work effectively at lower dosages and reduce the pill burden,” Reguant notes.
In combination with proper supplementation, a lifestyle that supports bone and joint health is also necessary to enter senior life as healthily as possible. Daily physical activity combined with weight management and a healthy balanced diet can support muscles, bones and joints, he concludes.
