Lonza CHI expands eco-friendly innovation with new Center of Applied Sustainability
Lonza Capsules & Health Ingredients (CHI) is scaling its sustainability initiatives through its newly inaugurated Center of Applied Sustainability. The move is part of the supplier’s ongoing transformation to reduce its environmental footprint and support global sustainability efforts.
According to the company, the Center of Applied Sustainability comprises a specialized team of experts in critical areas such as operations, energy management, emissions reduction, and life cycle impact assessments.
The team will play a central role in implementing actionable solutions to reduce its footprint in line with science-based emissions reduction targets, and validated by the SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative).
“As environmental concerns in the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries continue to grow, developers and manufacturers face increased pressure to reduce environmental impact, particularly in final dosage forms,” Christine Lebeault, Lonza CHI’s head of applied sustainability, underscores.
“We believe that sustainability and innovation go hand in hand, strengthening competitive advantage and contributing to a more sustainable future.”
A collaborative approach to sustainability
According to Lonza CHI, the newly established center’s efforts will extend beyond internal goals. The company asserts that it is committed to fostering collaboration with partners, suppliers, and customers to collectively achieve shared environmental targets.
The center’s team will also work alongside customers to help them meet their own climate goals and help ensure that sustainability is woven into every stage of a product’s lifecycle, innovating with the “lowest environmental impacts.”
“With our newly established Center of Applied Sustainability, we will integrate sustainability into the early stages of product development and co-innovate with our customers to help them meet their environmental goals through responsible sourcing, manufacturing and innovation,” Lebeault explains.
Green future innovation
The center will also provide comprehensive support services designed to aid customers in reducing emissions from upstream supply chains and downstream products.
By combining expertise, resources, and innovation, Lonza highlights that the center marks a critical milestone in its ongoing mission to be a leader in sustainable practices within the health and nutraceutical sectors.
Furthermore, the company states that the center’s dedicated team represents a forward-thinking initiative toward creating a more sustainable future for the industry and demonstrates that environmental responsibility and innovation can go hand in hand.
