Lactobacillus strain enhances immune system

01/04/05 Suntory, a leading Japanese beverage manufacturer has announced that in its recent experiments on animals and human beings, it has discovered a unique property of Lactobacillus pentosus S-PT84, a type of plant-derived lactic acid bacteria.
The company tested food products, made from sesame, soybean, or konbu kelp and fermented with Lactobacillus pentosus S-PT84.
Results show that an intake of S-PT84-fermented products effectively activates natural killer (NK) cells, a type of lymphocyte related to immune functions.
Further, the company has concluded that S-PT84 helps boost the immune system.
