L-Nutra’s nut-based Fast Bar keeps body in fasting state overnight, finds study
17 May 2021 --- L-Nutra’s Fast Bar, a premium nutritional bar, can be used to effectively mimic the practice of a water-only fast, according to a new study.
“This research is the first of its kind to scientifically reveal that the body reacts to Fast Bar in a way that is comparable to a water-only fast,” says Dr. Om Ganda, associate clinical professor at Harvard Medical School.
“This means that it can be effectively used to facilitate the practice of both time-restricted eating and intermittent fasting.”
A published study in Nutrients reveals it is possible to keep the body in a fasting state while consuming Fast Bar.
L- Nutra’s Fasting Mimicking Diet (FMD) technology developed Fast Bar, positioned as the first nutrition bar designed for intermittent fasting.
Fast Bar is made of plant-based proteins, fats from macadamia nuts, pecans and almonds as well as fiber-rich carbohydrates. These nutrients rejuvenate the body and keep it in ketosis. Fast Bar is a non-GMO, gluten-free, soy-free, and made with no artificial sweeteners or preservatives.
Fast Bar is available in dark cocoa, cacao chip and honey varieties. In the summer, lemon berry and blueberry acai will launch.
Going head to head with water
The study observed 105 adults overnight as they fasted for 15 hours. The participants had glucose and ketone levels measured every hour for four hours after consuming either a Fast Bar, an average breakfast or just water.
It was found that the group that consumed the Fast Bar had glucose levels that were comparable to the group that only drank water. The ketone levels of the water-only and nutrition bar group were similar for two or more hours after the meal.
Those who drank only water showed a stronger urge to eat and had a lesser sense of fullness as compared to the participants who ate the Fast Bar. This was the result of monitoring the participants glucose and ketone levels over a four hour time frame.
The conclusion showed that the intake of Fast Bar did not cause a rise in blood sugar levels and it caused a limited appetite as compared to those who only consumed water.
Improved way of fasting?
CEO and board chairman of L-Nutra, Joseph Antoun, states that people struggle with the physical strain of going 14-18 hours on water alone to lose weight and enhance their metabolism. The long hours of no food stresses essential organs that need nourishment to perform.
Ketosis is achieved through the intake of the Fast Bar, ensuring that the body receives vital nutrients while fasting.
“Fast Bar is marketed as ensuring the best of both worlds, where one can maintain a state of ketosis similar to water fasting while still nourishing the body. This breakthrough finding cements L-Nutra as the leading nutri-tech company at the intersection of fasting, nutrition and longevity,” Antoun adds.
Dr. Daria Long, TEDx speaker and emergency medicine specialist adds that “more consumers are interested in fasting every year, and Fast Bar is the smarter way to fast longer while staying satisfied.”
“Fasting provides a wide array of health benefits including cellular rejuvenation, weight loss and support of metabolic balance,” she says.
Fasting benefits
Previously, USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology researchers found that intermittent fasting can have health benefits in humans. The study shows how human participants can lose weight and reduce their risk of life-threatening disease without any changes to their regular diet.
Time-sensitive eating can also be used for weight loss and ageing. By cycling genes between food intake and starvation, the body harvests old cells and grows young cells.
Time-restricted feeding, a form of intermittent fasting, can reduce the risk of developing breast cancer, a study found.
Low carbohydrate and gluten free diets are positioned to not be used much longer according to Mariko Hill, product development executive at Genco, who viewed “Intermittent fasting and vegan diets as having more potential staying-power”
“As consumer interest in intermittent fasting for weight management and improved metabolic health continues to grow, these findings are especially impactful,” concludes Dr. William Hsu, chief medical officer at L-Nutra.
