Kaneka’s ubiquinol combats mental and physical fatigue in nurses, study finds
23 Jun 2021 --- Kaneka Nutrients Europe’s ubiquinol can reduce levels of fatigue and stress. This is according to a study conducted by healthcare research company Expansion Consulteam on 85 French nurses.
Ubiquinol, the active form of coenzyme Q10, is a micronutrient that helps cells produce energy and is found naturally in the body. Ubiquinol deficiency causes a considerable decrease in energy, resulting in weariness and a lack of stamina.
“Researchers were already aware of the benefits kaneka ubiquinol could bring to the table in this catastrophic COVID-19 context, and so a study had to be conducted among nurses to support healthcare personnel,” Alexandre Magnin, sales and marketing manager at Kaneka Nutrients Europe, tells NutritionInsight.
“The urgency of the situation made it essential to obtain tangible results as fast as possible to help those essential workers in the midst of the pandemic,” he adds.
After 60 days of supplementation, nearly two-thirds reported they were less anxious, and over half stated they were less physically and psychologically exhausted. These findings are consistent with earlier research on ubiquinol’s fatigue-fighting properties.
“Research through clinical studies had already demonstrated a positive outcome on stress and fatigue. Nevertheless, researchers were surprised by the proportion of such positive results that came to support those previous clinical study results,” emphasized Magnin.
Focus on immunity
Other companies have also been exploring the link between shift workers and sleep. A Chr. Hansen study found that specific probiotic strains have a positive impact on rotation shift workers’ stress and sleep quality, supporting immunity by extension.
One of Innova Market Insights’ top trends for 2021, “In Tune with Immune,” emphasizes global consumers’ need to boost immune health, with 54 percent saying they have spent time educating themselves on immune-boosting ingredients.
Additionally, the pandemic has led to consumers focusing more on nutritional solutions to combat stress.
A shortage of ubiquinol in the body leads to a considerable drop in energy, causing exhaustion and a lack of stamina.
Of the 85 healthcare workers involved in the study, almost half worked in hospitals and the other half within private practices. The majority of the nurses stated that they were stressed, weary and mentally exhausted prior to the commencement of the experiment.
Healthcare workers and the pandemic
At the end of 24 days, 62 percent of participants said they felt less stressed after taking 100 mg of kaneka ubiquinol daily for 60 days.
Furthermore, 55 percent reported feeling less physically fatigued, and 56 percent reported feeling less mentally exhausted since commencing the ubiquinol supplementation. In addition, more than seven out of ten respondents said their general well-being had improved.
“The feedback from the nurses shows that ubiquinol is a valuable weapon in the fight against daily stress and fatigue,” notes Filip Van hulle, general manager at Kaneka Nutrients Europe.
“Many consumers are currently looking to improve their overall health, and ubiquinol could well be the solution: It supports several areas simultaneously, such as heart health, immunity and mental well-being, and contributes to improved energy and endurance,” he continues.
Ubiquinol’s rediscovered benefits
Previously, Kaneka Pharma emphasized how its proprietary ubiquinol shifted from sports nutrition and heart health to the immune sector.
A recent study found that consuming ubiquinol gelatin capsules improved recovery time, immune defense, and mass muscle growth in healthy volunteers.
Additionally, ubiquinol has increased energy, recovery, and overall health in several studies over the last 60 years while being safe and having no recorded adverse effects.
A study found that D-ribose and ubiquinol may improve mitochondrial activity and aid in managing heart failure.
