Kaged Muscle brings Lonza’s TWK sports probiotic to US market
01 Jul 2021 --- Sports nutrition company Kaged Muscle is introducing Lonza’s probiotic ingredient, designed exclusively for sports nutrition, in the US.
Lonza’s TWK10 sports probiotic, a variant of the probiotic strain L. plantarum, is the first probiotic to be clinically shown to boost exercise endurance by up to 75 percent.
“We are excited to collaborate with Kaged Muscle, innovators within the sports nutrition field, to bring one of the latest health ingredients to the market,” Vaughn DuBow, product manager of Sports Nutrition, notes.
Previously, TWK10 was licensed specifically for North America by Synbiotech.
Geared toward a clean label
TWK10 sports probiotic is a clean-label, naturally derived, and clinically verified nutritional supplement. This type of L. plantarum strain is derived from Taiwanese kimchi and is a probiotic intended to address athletes’ health, performance and endurance at all levels.
“Our customers are more conscious of what is included in the supplements they use to fuel their workouts,” Brian Rand, chief innovation officer of Kaged Muscle, states.
“We were impressed with the TWK10 ingredient due to its substantial effects in athletes of all levels. It also embodies a clean and naturally sourced ingredient, as it was originally isolated from food-based sources,” he continues.
Innova Market Insights’ data reveals that three in five global consumers are interested in learning about where their food comes from and how it was made.
Probiotics in the spotlight
Pro-biotic Premium Performance will be released as part of Kaged Muscle’s endurance and active living product lines. Additional Lonza health ingredients, such as Carnipure L-Carnitine and ChromeMate, are sold in the company’s products.
Kaged Muscle’s Pro-biotic will be made with Capsugel DRcaps capsules, which have a modified release profile suitable for releasing probiotics to the gut in a targeted manner.
DRcaps capsules have a release strategy that ensures maximal delivery of living probiotics to where they may be absorbed optimally, unlike regular capsules that open the contents within the stomach.
Previously, Lonza added to its clean label product portfolio with the launch of MuscleGuard, a vegan product that promotes muscle strength and activity.
“Probiotics have been in the spotlight for years for their beneficial effects on digestive health. Recently, scientists have discovered even more ways for probiotics to improve health, including benefits connected to athletic performance and exercise endurance,” DuBow notes.
