Ingredia’s Lactium: New Clinical Evidence on Stress Moderation Expected Soon
Discovered by Ingredia Nutritional R&D team in collaboration with academic research a decade ago, the soothing properties of Lactium have been assessed by numerous clinical studies.
Jul 25 2011 --- Many clinical studies have already assessed the efficacy of Lactium on stress symptoms moderation. Ingredia Nutritional continues to conduct new clinical studies on its flagship ingredient, with the aim of collecting even more clinical evidence that will help its customers achieve persuasive communication towards end consumers while complying with current regulations.
Ingredia Nutritional’s Lactium is a natural milk protein hydrolysate containing a unique bio-active peptide.
Discovered by Ingredia Nutritional R&D team in collaboration with academic research a decade ago, the soothing properties of Lactium have been assessed by numerous clinical studies. Indeed, it has been clinically proven that Lactium reduces stress-related symptoms, based both on individual statements and physiological stress parameters measurements.
In order to exploit the full potential of Lactium, Ingredia Nutritional keeps running new clinical trials. One ongoing study on a shorter period of use actually showed very promising results. Ingredia Nutritional could consider collaborating with the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) to make the most of all these clinical evidences.
The EFSA recently rejected three health claims relative to the casein tryptic hydrolysate effect on alleviation of psychological stress; however it is important to note that these dossiers were not submitted nor controlled by Ingredia Nutritional, who was in no way involved in this process. Unfortunately, incomplete data and inaccurate wording of these early requests - at a time when submission guidelines were not yet fully clarified - resulted in the negative opinion of the EFSA.
Besides, those dossiers were submitted under article 13.1, which is inappropriate.
If a request was to be made for a health claim for Lactium, it would have to be under article 13.5, as Lactium is a patented ingredient and its scientific and clinical data are proprietary.
Lactium is a unique, 100% natural ingredient with clinically proven stress-moderating properties. Ingredia Nutritional will continue to back this unique bioactive with even more clinical research that will open new market opportunities for its customers, while complying with the regulations in force.
