Hochdorf unveils gut-friendly goat’s milk infant formula via its Bimbosan range
08 Mar 2021 --- Switzerland-based infant formula player Hochdorf has unveiled the latest addition to its Bimbosan milk range. The goat milk-based, premium infant formula is touted as benefiting infants’ gut health beyond being nutritious.
The product is very easy to digest, according to the company and is suitable for babies with a sensitive gut, as goat’s milk presents a viable alternative to traditional formula.
Breastfeeding remains the golden standard for babies’ nutrition, Hochdorf says. The World Health Organization, therefore, recommends six months of exclusive breastfeeding.
But there are always situations where a baby needs supplementary food or breastfeeding is not possible.
Goat’s milk benefits
Goat milk has many good, natural qualities, the company notes. It is characterized by its good digestibility, for example. This is because goat milk contains smaller “protein globules” that can be broken down better by digestive enzymes than cow’s milk proteins.
According to the company, the product is suitable for babies with a sensitive gut, as goat’s milk presents a viable alternative to traditional formula.Hochdorf uses only goat milk as a protein source in the new goat milk-based infant formula. In addition, the Bimbosan milks also contain omega 3 fatty acid DHA (fish oil), which is legally required in baby food, as well as the omega 6 fatty acid ARA.
Both are important for the normal development of a baby in the first two years. Added to this are the latest generation of the prebiotic HMO or human milk oligosaccharides, which have been shown to promote the child’s immune system and healthy intestinal flora.
Bimbosan goat milks do not contain palm oil or starch. In line with statutory requirements, they are also gluten-free. They are made from the best goat milk, with a pleasant, milky taste.
The full range of Bimbosan products can be found in all Swiss pharmacies and chemist shops. Some products, including the goat milk range, are available in larger Coop sales outlets and in various online shops.
A turbulent year
Hochdorf had a rough 2019, as it reported huge losses. However, it maintained stability amid unfruitful acquisitions and managed to bounce back in 2020.
The group, which is also based in Hochdorf, achieved a consolidated net sales revenue of CHF 158.3 million in the first half of 2020.
Meanwhile, the infant formula space is booming with innovation. Previously, NutritionInsight reported that personalization and regional considerations are a key element of narrowing the gap between infant formula and breast milk.
Moreover, recently the infant nutrition market reflecting trends trailblazed in the adult market, including gut health, immunity, plant-based and organic.
In this arena, Arla Foods Ingredients recently launched Lacprodan Premium ALPHA-10, an alpha-lactalbumin product touted as helping infant formula manufacturers reduce production costs without compromising safety or quality.
