Gnosis by Lesaffre expands probiotics range with proprietary specification
02 May 2023 --- In light of a growing body of research and development into probiotics due to consumer demand for improved gut health, Gnosis by Lesaffre has expanded its LifeinU L. Rhamnosus GG Range of probiotics with a new specification.
The launch underscores the company’s move to develop a comprehensive bacterial offering that covers all microorganism kingdoms, including yeast, bacteria and bacteriophages. The biotransformation process involved in producing Lactobacillus .rhamnosus GG 350 reduces raw material consumption.
Gnosis has invested “significant time and resources” in developing a high-quality specification – 350.109 CFU/g – in line with market standards. The company’s proprietary production process ensures consistent and robust stability over time.
“We believe that this approach enables industries to reduce their impact on the environment while encouraging customers to consume more responsibly,” says Philippe Caillat, global marketing director at Gnosis.
Blooming gut floraCurrent R&D conducted by Gnosis by Lesaffre is focused on microorganisms.
The new quality specification forms part of Gnosis’s existing reference probiotic bacteria, L. rhamnosus GG. It supports digestive health by restoring and maintaining a balanced gastrointestinal flora, protecting the gut against antibiotic-associated diarrhea and acute diarrhea.
Gnosis is focused on researching and developing microorganisms with a particular focus on bacteria. The company leverages its biotechnology and yeast research to “provide an adapted response” to clients’ needs.
“We believe this approach will enable us to offer our customers a truly integrated and holistic approach to microbiome health,” adds Caillat.
Bacterial offerings
Last year, Gnosis by Lesaffre sought to drive innovation across the nutritional yeast market with products to support and maintain diverse metabolic functions. The company spotlighted Red Star yeast as a salt replacement with vitamin B fortification and Noochy Crisp for a crispy add-on.
Another initiative by the company involves supplementing with (6S)-5-methyltetrahydrofolic acid, which it claims is preferable to folic acid in some instances surrounding pregnancy, according to a company-backed study. Currently, fortifying with folic acid is practiced in about 80 countries worldwide.
Meanwhile, consumers and practitioners often need more understanding of the nuances between folic acid, folate and their various forms.
