NationsBenefits expands nutritional support program complementing GLP-1 weight loss therapy
On the occasion of National Nutrition Month, Healthcare fintech provider NationsBenefits reveals it is ramping up its “NationsNutrition” initiative. The nutritional support program is designed for individuals taking GLP-1 medications and who commonly struggle to retain muscle mass, maintain nutrition, and remain hydrated, in addition to GI symptoms.
Addressing this, NationsBenefits offers access to nutrition counseling, meal planning tools, and grocery guidance.
A recent NationsBenefits evaluation revealed that without a structured GLP-1 education and nutrition counseling program, over 50% of members who started GLP-1 medications discontinued use within the first six months.

Aside from assisting patients taking rapid weight loss medication, NationsBenefits also supports those addressing chronic illnesses like diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.
Nutritional interventions complementing GLP-1 therapy
NationsBenefits attributes the high dropout rate for GLP-1 therapy to a lack of understanding about potential side effects, risks, and the essential diet and exercise modifications required for the medication to be effective.
While using GLP-1s, adjusting the diet to include high-quality proteins, fiber-rich foods, and balanced meals can help reduce side effects such as nausea while boosting metabolism.
“Without this crucial support, individuals experience little to no benefit, leading to significant healthcare costs for health plans with no measurable improvement in outcomes,” the company underscores.
Participants in NationsBenefits’ “medically tailored” nutrition programs have shown promising results, achieving an average 6% weight loss and a 1.5-point reduction in A1c levels, key indicators of better metabolic health.
Additionally, the company reports health improvements among its members receiving medically tailored groceries. Notably, 68% saw positive changes or maintained healthy blood pressure levels. Those with Stage 2 hypertension experienced significant reductions, with systolic blood pressure dropping by 10.6% and diastolic by 13.4%.
Ongoing lifestyle support
As weight loss patients reduce or discontinue their medication use, ongoing lifestyle support becomes even more crucial.
NationsBenefits offers real-time progress tracking through connected devices like smart scales and health monitoring tools. These provide immediate feedback on weight trends and metabolic changes, which inform treatment adjustments and encourage continued adherence to positive lifestyle changes.
According to the company, the program issues personalized nutrition guidance, instead of “generic diet plans.” This includes AI-driven recommendations and registered dietitian counseling to ensure members receive tailored food prescriptions, meal planning, and grocery guidance.
