Gelita on course to detail new era healthy aging with collagen peptides at Vitafoods 2023
19 Apr 2023 --- The official collagen sponsor of this year’s Vitafoods Europe will hone in on prominent trends in the market, such as “healthy aging” and “beauty-from-within,” burgeoning areas of interest in the market. The company’s breakthroughs will be presented by subject experts to allow visitors to delve deeper into skin and joint health topics.
“Osteoarthritis and osteoporosis affect millions of elderly people around the world, and the numbers are growing,” Oliver Wolf, marketing EMEIA at Gelita, tells NutritionInsight. “Healthy aging is essential if older people are to remain independent and mobile.”
Many are taking an increasingly proactive role in terms of their well-being in order to counteract the effects of aging by adopting healthier diets and active lifestyles.
“This has created exciting new opportunities for food, beverage and nutraceutical manufacturers to help consumers achieve these goals,” says Wolf. “In order to successfully meet such demand, manufacturers need scientifically proven ingredients that can be incorporated into a wide range of everyday products. Collagen peptides are one such ingredient.”
Trade show attendees should prepare for several presentations about Gelita’s tailored gelatins, collagen peptides and navigating the modern-day challenges of nutraceutical production. The company helps industry players unify collagen research findings and its market potential.
Collagen protein prevails
The collagen protein pioneer will reveal how its Bioactive Collagen Peptides (BCP) enhance healthy aging, how Confixx gelatin facilitates the development of fortified gummies and how Gelita EC enables the production of enteric capsules.
“A growing body of scientific data shows that supplementation with our Bioactive Collagen Peptides helps fight degenerative bone and joint problems, maintain mobility and improve the overall quality of life,” Wolf explains.Gelita's BCPs are clinically tested on humans.
Supported by approximately 20 published human studies, BCP can help supplement manufacturers formulate market-savvy products for joint, bone, muscle and skin health.
Rather than offering a blanket solution, Gelita’s collagen peptides are optimized to target key areas of age-related health. Fortibone stimulates the synthesis of the bone collagen matrix; Fortigel supports mobility by promoting the regeneration of joint cartilage tissues and Tendoforte keeps ligaments and tendons healthy and flexible. In the beauty category, Verisol stimulates fibroblasts to produce more collagen in the skin.
According to Innova Market Insights, supplements that provide targeted skin and beauty care can also benefit other health needs. In the last five years, beauty supplements with additional brain and mood health claims have grown more than 67%, while product launches with energy, stamina and joint health claims are also gaining ground.
“Verisol was a pioneer in the beauty-from-within market. Prior to Verisol, the category consisted primarily of vitamins and minerals consumed for more general health benefits and not necessarily beauty specific,” Wolf continues.
“Verisol changed all that with its proven ability to improve collagen production by stimulating fibroblasts to produce more of the skin-enhancing protein. Many clinical studies have confirmed that women who supplement with Verisol for just a few weeks notice improvements in skin health, such as enhanced elasticity and fewer wrinkles.”
New products in supplements for skin health almost tripled from 2017 to 2021. Meanwhile, Europe had the most skin health supplement launches in this period, with 41% market share.
The market researcher says the number of new product launches with collagen for joint health grew by 85% in the last five years. Notably, type II collagen has been emerging in new launches, particularly gaining popularity in combinations with other ingredients for joint health.
Vitafoods Europe will take place between May 9-11 in Geneva, Switzerland. Gelita will be present at booth I110.
Fortified gummies
Gelita will showcase Confixx, its fortified gummy innovation, at the Vitafoods trade show. Fortified gummies are on-trend, with the number of supplements launched in this format surging by 81% globally between 2020 and 2021.Gelita’s Confixx gummy can be used for starch-free gummy production.
Confixx is a fast-setting gelatin that can be used in starch-free gummy production. This solution opens up new opportunities to formulate with sensitive active ingredients.
The company will also demonstrate how Gelita EC can help supplement manufacturers optimize enteric fill release in soft capsules to improve product economics when working with probiotics and other sensitive fills.
Gelita EC enables a cost-effective single-step production process and negates the need to “overdose” active ingredients to compensate for losses in the gastric passage. Enteric soft gels manufactured with Gelita EC withstand the acidic milieu and enter the small intestine intact.
Gelita’s BCPs are well tolerated and have no adverse side effects. “They are easily digested, rapidly absorbed and highly bioavailable. From a technological point of view, they combine well with vitamins, minerals and other nutrients and have excellent cold-water solubility.
