Four claims in one vegan capsule: Polaris launches algal DHA omega 3 in softgel
21 Nov 2017 --- Polaris is launching its ultra-stable algal DHA omega 3 in vegan softgel format, enabling it to offer four EFSA claims in one capsule, the company reports. Each capsule is said to deliver an optimal 250mg of DHA omega 3 from microalgae in a 100 percent plant-based shell, making it the ideal solution for consumers seeking a vegan or vegetarian alternative to gelatin capsules.
Furthermore, the international expert in nutritional lipids notes that one capsule per day opens up the possibility of four different EFSA health claims:
- DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal vision.
- DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function.
- DHA maternal intake contributes to the normal development of the eye of the fetus and breastfed children.
- DHA maternal intake contributes to the normal brain development of the fetus and breastfed children.
“Increasing concerns about animal welfare and the environment are driving demand for vegan products, especially among millennials,” Véronique Sancéau, Marketing Manager at Polaris, tells NutritionInsight. “The other thing health-conscious consumers want is convenience. So by offering four EFSA claims in one vegan capsule we’re meeting a lot of needs at the same time.”
“Consumer demand for the many health benefits of omega 3 remains extremely high and in a competitive market an EFSA claim has never been more important,” adds Sancéau.
The oil is said to offer unmatched stability thanks to Polaris’ unique Qualitysilver industrial methodology. Internal testing – based on Rancimat tests comparing the stability of Omegavie DHA algae Qualitysilver 5 with standard oil including tocopherols – showed it to be around three times more stable than standard algal oil.
Polaris notes that its algal oil is 100 percent produced in Europe, non-GMO, allergen-free and extracted naturally without solvents. In addition, it has just received kosher certification and Halal certification is expected by the end of the year. It has also received “Non-GMO Verification” accreditation for sales in the US.
