Farlong Nutraceutical starts GRAS assessment for prostate health plant extract
19 Apr 2022 --- Nutrition company Farlong Nutraceutical has initiated the “Generally Recognized as Safe” (GRAS) assessment process for its plant extract, Persicaria Capitata (Polygoni Capitati Herba) on US markets. The functional botanical extract is said to benefit prostate health.
The process is expected to take around four months.
According to Farlong Nutraceutical, the herb is traditionally used in China to treat different urologic disorders including urinary tract infections, urinary calculi and to reduce prostate inflammation. The herb comes from the Persicaria genus, which is within the buckwheat family.
The news comes as part of a broader trend toward medicalizing nutritional supplements, with US healthcare insiders citing “precision nutrition” as being key to public health.
Prostate health
Despite its importance, prostate health solutions are not widely available within industry, as an increasing number of studies highlight the importance of nutrition in prostate health. Last year, a study found that cutting out meat can slash the risk of prostate cancer and erectile dysfunction. Another study found increasing mushroom intake benefits prostate health. Industry players have previously flagged food and nutrition as a new class of medicine.
These studies come at a time when consumers are increasingly looking at their nutrition to solve a range of health complaints, preferring holistic health solutions more and more.
Earlier this year, an Evolva executive discussed how nutrition was even gaining prominence as a beauty solution.
Nutrition market becoming nostalgic
Farlong Nutraceutical merges nostalgia for traditional ingredients with modern technology to produce ingredients such as Ginseng Plus for heart health, Lifeflower for cognitive health, and AstaBest astaxanthin for antioxidant intake.
The natural and herbal supplement provider specializes in traditional botanical remedies. Farlong Nutraceutical currently has a range of 400 unique ingredients for health and beauty applications. Farlong’s supplements are promoted as natural “from seed to shelf.”
Its ingredients come from a farm located in Yunnan Province in China, a place renowned for its traditional medicinal herbs. Each farm is ethically and environmentally certified.
Nostalgia is currently gaining prominence on the nutrition market as companies experiment with classic and novel ingredients and flavors which harken back to consumers' pasts and traditions.
