Empowering mobility: Bioiberica’s Collavant n2 collagen improves women’s joint health
05 Apr 2024 --- The women-only study investigated the effects of 40 mg/day Bioiberica’s Collavant n2 native type II collagen intake on the joint functionality and quality of life of women with knee osteoarthritis (OA). The study findings reveal that the supplement improves functionality and joint comfort in six weeks.
“These latest clinical conclusions open up new possibilities for innovation with native (undenatured) type II collagen in women’s health, especially during menopause when joint health problems can become a concern due to estrogen deficiency,” comments Joan Bassa, human health business unit director at Bioiberica.
“Low-dosage, science-backed ingredients that have been shown to support joint health, like Collavant n2, could therefore help to address the needs of women during this life phase. We know Collavant n2 can support manufacturers in tapping into the broader trends of healthy aging, mobility and holistic wellness, and now we look forward to collaborating with new and existing partners to explore formulations geared toward empowering women to lead vibrant and active lives.”
The study conducted by researchers based in Brazil and Portugal and published in the Wiener klinische Wochenschrift (The Central European Journal of Medicine) compares the effects of Motilex Caps — a capsule containing Collavant n2 native (undenatured) type II collagen — in women living with OA, to a control and exercise therapy group.
The groups of participants receiving Collavant n2 were administered the supplement once daily over a period of six weeks. This resulted in a reported 44.8% pain alleviation on the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index, indicating enhanced joining comfort and a greater range of motion in the affected knee. It also resulted in a 10.4% increase in the distance walked during a six-minute period without discomfort.
Positive results were also observed in the control group, which engaged in therapy exercises, revealing the potential of combining supplementation with exercises for joint pain.
Collavant n2 native type II collagen is extracted from chicken sternum and has been incorporated in the treatment and support of joint health for over 20 years.
In a recent interview with Nutrition Insight, Antonio Vendrell, marketing director at Bioiberica, argued that joint health supplements are becoming an increasingly mainstream solution.
Bioiberica has also emphasized how Collavant n2 can provide optimal joint support alongside its Mobilee hyaluronic acid matrix.
The company is looking into the previously untapped Chinese market, where demand for joint health supplementation is on the rise.
