DSM opens special care premix facility as demand for tailored solutions reaches “new heights”
18 Jun 2021 --- DSM is increasing the production of its special care premix solutions with the opening of Buk2, an extended manufacturing facility in Buk, Poland. The facility will help meet the growing demand for a reliable and even faster supply of premixes, including for the medical, infant and senior nutrition spaces.
“Consumer trends keep on evolving. There is a need for a higher speed of innovation leading to more requests for differentiated solutions,” Anton Vleeshouwers, project director of the construction, tells NutritionInsight.
The demand for tailored nutritional premix solutions for consumers requiring special care has reached “new heights” in recent years, explains André Rhoen, vice president EMEA at DSM.
These areas include medical nutrition for patients, immunity products for elderly consumers, as well as specialized nutrition for infants and young children in Europe, Middle East and Africa. The Middle East and Africa are also home to consumers seeking nutrition improvement products.
According to Innova Market Insights, 64 percent of global consumers had found more ways to tailor their life and products to their individual style, beliefs and needs.
New production lines
Premix consumers need high-quality micronutrients in quantities that require very precise dosing and product uniformity at the highest quality standards, according to Vleeshouwers.
“This is where our advanced mixing technology brings us a step ahead.”
“Meeting the specific needs of our customers in these markets requires not only a deep understanding of nutritional science, but also the state-of-the-art production facilities that the extended Buk2 site will provide,” Rhoen adds.
Buk2 includes four new dedicated premix production lines, which can be used in challenging applications. The financial details of the site have not been disclosed.
Sustainable production
As part of DSM’s continued commitment to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, including Responsible Consumption and Production, Buk2 was designed with optimized energy and water consumption at the site and minimal generated waste.
“With this facility, DSM has ensured both the capacity and capabilities to help its customers fulfill safely and reliably an increasing demand for tailored nutritional solutions, cater to current and future market trends as well as meet the highest quality requirements,” says Vleeshouwers.
Earlier this week, DSM entered the burgeoning CBD market with a commercial partnership with Mile High Labs.
In April, it also invested US$100 million in Hologram Sciences, its new consumer-facing company that will create personalized brands targeting various health conditions, starting with immunity.
