Cypress Systems launches chelated minerals to bypass absorption and side effect issues
27 May 2021 --- US-based biotech company Cypress Systems is launching a premium ingredient line of pure, fully-reacted chelated minerals branded TheChelates.
TheChelates minerals are easily absorbed without the side effects associated with mineral intake as they are not mixed with inorganic minerals and contain no maltodextrin, says the company.
They are also created using patented chelated technology, which combines minerals chemically with amino acids to form “complexes.”
Jim Roufs, chief executive officer of Intelligent Nutrition, tells NutritionInsight: “When considering fully-reacted chelated minerals, it is critical to assure they meet established mineral content, molecular formulation, and chemical structure.”
“TheChelates are superior to other more problematic chelated minerals because they are not diluted, blended or buffered with inorganic minerals. No inorganic buffers means superior absorption,” explains Cypress Systems chief executive officer Paul Willis.
TheChelates also have the “critical factors” of solubility, elemental concentration, nitrogen, pH and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR).
Consumer-focused approach
Cypress System ingredients are scientifically validated, safe, pure and bioavailable before they are made available to the marketplace.
“The main focus during the development stage was to conduct required analytical test methods to assure each ingredient was fully reacted and conformed with mineral composition and molecular formula,” Willis explains to NutritionInsight.
The motivation of this ingredient launch is to expand the company’s mineral line beyond its current food form minerals in yeast.
“The fully reacted chelated minerals align with our commitment to provide best-in-class products while meeting the growing demand for minerals, ” Willis adds.
Transparent sourcing
“Transparency Triumphs” emerged as a winner in Innova Market Insights’ Top Ten Trends for 2021. An Innova consumer survey indicates that 85 percent of consumers globally say that information on what is in their food is of significant importance to them. Similarly, 59 percent say that they want to know where their food comes from and how it is made.
TheChelates are created with five key factors: solubility, elemental concentration, nitrogen, pH and FT-IR spectra. This trend is echoed by Willis, who notes that “consumers are becoming more proactive and well-educated about their health and nutrition decisions. This tends to support science-based validated products, which provide value-added results to the consumer.”
“Our customers expect high-quality ingredients that are backed by science. We would not be launching TheChelates unless we were confident that they are the purest and most efficacious minerals available.”
Scientifically tested and proven, TheChelates are minerals as close to nature’s food form as possible. “Having premium minerals in the right dose, backed by gold-standard research, can be a distinct competitive advantage,” states Willis.
“We are providing formulators with endless possibilities instead of the typical limitations associated with chelated minerals.”
Mineral breakdown
The available chelates have healing properties as a result of their nutrient-dense structure. The chelates available at Cypress Systems are ferrous bisglycinate, magnesium bisglycinate, calcium bisglycinate, calcium citrate malate, chromium picolinate, manganese bisglycinate and copper bisglycinate.
With regards to the nutritional benefits of these products, Roufs highlights: “The magnesium found in our magnesium bisglycinate is essential for the function of over 300 different enzymes in the body.”
“This includes those involved in energy production, the synthesis of proteins, DNA and RNA production, maintaining bone mineral density, muscle and nerve function, as well as controlling blood glucose and blood pressure levels.”
The copper bisglycinate is “300 percent more concentrated than the leading competitor. As a fully-reacted bisglycinate, our copper content is 30 percent compared to the 10 percent blended-down product from the leading competitor.”
“Our fully-reacted chelates can be used wherever other chelates are currently being used and with superior benefits. An example is the fully-reacted chelated zinc bisglycinate, which can be formulated in vitamin gummies, drink mixes, and chewables,” he adds.
It has been recently highlighted that consumers have gained an interest in vitamins and minerals due to the pandemic.
Future endeavors on the horizon?
TheChelates are currently available in domestic and international markets, and there is expected future expansion, Willis notes.
“In the coming months, we will launch a new iron product that is 100 percent soluble, taste-free, and odorless. This form of iron will completely change the landscape of iron formulation,” Willis adds.
Rouf adds more about future developments. “Many products in the market are not fully reacted mineral chelates and have been blended with low bioavailable inorganic minerals to increase the total mineral content. Validating fully reacted mineral chelation is not without its challenges nor costs.
