Colorcon Ventures flags personalized 3D printing potential with Remedy Health investment
13 Oct 2021 --- Colorcon Ventures, the corporate venture fund of Colorcon Inc., has invested an undisclosed sum in UK-based Remedy Health, which specializes in 3D printing personalized gummy stacks.
“Personalization of dosage forms and use of 3D printing are emerging technology trends in the health and wellness industry creating a significant opportunity to innovate and bring convenience, compliance and safety to the consumers,” Ali Rajabi-Siahboomi, vice president and chief innovation officer at Colorcon, tells NutritionInsight.
“Remedy Health aligns with Colorcon Ventures’ strategic focus on novel oral dosage forms and advanced manufacturing technologies,” he adds.
In May this year, Remedy Health also raised US$11 million during its funding round with investors including ADM Ventures, Cibus Fund, Henkel X and Apater Capital.
“We are pleased to have Colorcon Ventures join our roster of strategic investors as we scale Remedy to revolutionize the health industry and capture more of the rapidly growing, multi-billion-dollar personalized nutrition market,” Melissa Snover, Remedy Health’s founder and CEO, says.

One of the key areas Remedy Health is focused on, which Colorcon Ventures has taken an interest in, lies in the field of personalized nutrition and wellness products through Remedy Health’s brands ‘Nourished’ and ‘Nourished Kids.’
These items allow for 3D printing of personalized gummy stacks, which are tailored to consumers once an online questionnaire is completed. Recommendations are offered for seven key ingredients.
A personalized, 3D printed single dose gummy product with a clean ingredient profile is appealing to health-conscious consumers,” Rajabi-Siahboomi notes.
Colorcon’s focus is geared toward optimizing the personalized 3D printed gummies and the broader opportunities that personalized 3D printing technology can offer consumers.
“Colorcon’s in-depth expertise in material science and formulation of solid dosages offer value in productivity, stability and formulation optimization of the personalized 3D printed gummies,” Rajabi-Siahboomi says.
The industry is moving to meet the demands of consumers, who are turning more toward personalized nutrition.
Evolving personalized nutrition
Remedy Health launched its Nourished personalized gummy vitamin brand in 2020, and the product has since evolved. Earlier this year, ADM’s investment resulted in the addition of HT-BPL1 postbiotic to contribute metabolic effects to the gummies, allowing consumers to have more influence in the outcome of their gummies.
Personalized nutrition is in the industry spotlight, with billions of US dollars in investments. It has been marked as one of 2021’s Top Ten Trends by Innova Market Insights, as 64% of global consumers say they look for F&B that fit their unique lifestyles.
Colorcon Inc. has also been expanding its portfolio, with one of its latest projects being the expansion of its Nutrafinish Film Coatings portfolio to include label-friendly and titanium dioxide-free coatings for the nutritional and dietary supplements market.
