Coffee could reduce risk of cancer- study
In a study, people who consumed one to two cups of coffee every day had about half the risk of developing liver cancer compared with those who never drank coffee.
17/02/05 People who regularly drink coffee to boost their energy may also be reducing their risk of developing liver cancer, according to a new study by researchers in Japan.
For their findings, the team examined data on more than 90,000 people in Japan. They found that people who consumed one to two cups of coffee every day had about half the risk of developing liver cancer compared with those who never drank coffee. The protective effect also increased when more than two cups were consumed daily.
The findings appear in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
According to American Cancer Society figures, close to 19,000 cases of liver cancer were diagnosed in the U.S. last year and more than 14,000 died from the illness.
The team of researchers also looked at the protective effects of drinking green tea, however, they found no association between green tea consumption and liver cancer.
