11/09/06 The Coca-Cola system has launched nutrition labeling initiatives in Australia and New Zealand to help consumers make informed dietary choices. Beginning later this year, the number of kilojoules per serving will appear on the front of all Company products offered there, including regular and diet soft drinks, juices, teas and sports drinks.
The at-a-glance information will tell consumers exactly how much a serving of that beverage contributes to the total daily intake of energy for an average adult, as established by Australia’s National Health and Medical Research Council and New Zealand’s Dietary Guidelines.
There is a great deal of misinformation in the market about how much energy different food and drinks provide. The new labeling will provide simple information to help people work out their energy intake for the day and balance it with physical exercise.
Coca-Cola Australia consulted with stakeholders and consumer groups on how best to communicate valuable nutrition information in a more meaningful, user-friendly and visible way. The new labels will empower Australians with the facts to make informed choices for their health and wellbeing.
The new labels will begin to appear on supermarket shelves in the coming months, once existing label inventories sell out.
Our Company is taking several measures to meet evolving consumer needs, including launching the "Make Every Drop Matter" consumer education program.
