CanolaInfo touts canola oil as perfect healthy choice for summer grilling
22 Aug 2017 --- Canadian non-profit organization CanolaInfo has put forward canola oil as the perfect oil for enhancing flavors while also producing healthy fat during late-summer grilling. “Canola oil is your best friend for summer grilling, it offers a unique one-two punch with both grilling and health benefits,” says CanolaInfo spokesperson Manuel Villacorta. “There is even evidence that it may help to reduce belly fat.”
Canola oil is described by the CanolaInfo website as: “heart-healthy, affordable and ideal for any type of cooking.” The site says that it is the number one cooking oil in Canada and Japan, while it is number two in Mexico and the US. Overall, it is said to be the third most consumed cooking oil in the world.
Villacorta has also offered some tips for healthy and satisfying grilling during the summer. One is that canola oil has a high smoke point, so it can take the heat, which means less smoke when grilling. Villacorta advises grillers to rub grill grates before heating to ensure food doesn't stick.
Another tip is that canola oil’s neutral flavor allows the flavors of favorite recipes to come through. A third is that canola oil is versatile and works well in a variety of dishes, including marinades and salad dressings. The low saturated fat content means it doesn't solidify in the fridge and stays ready to use at a moment's notice, Villacorta adds.
“I recommend canola oil to my clients and personally use it regularly,” states Villacorta. “Canola oil is the perfect choice for summer cooking.”
Belly fat reduced
Canola oil contains mostly monounsaturated fats, and CanolaInfo cites a recent study which suggested that using an oil made predominantly from monounsaturated fats may benefit the waistline. Research results – published in the November 2016 Obesity journal – saw a decrease in abdominal fat mass of participants on a canola oil diet, as compared to diets with oils that were made up of other types of fats. The participants in the study were at risk of metabolic syndrome, which affects 40 percent of Americans.
“In short, canola oil can mean great things for your grill and could help your waistline,” adds Villacorta.
