Brenntag extends Lallemand Bio-Ingredients’ food enzymes distribution deal to North America
Brenntag Nutrition & Food has expanded its distribution deal with Lallemand Bio-Ingredients to market its Food Enzymes portfolio in North America. The agreement will extend Lallemand’s baking enzyme portfolio to Brenntag’s US and Canada customers.
The portfolio includes the Nutrilife baking enzyme range designed for ease of use, “high performance,” and formulation flexibility.
The partners will collaborate to deliver commercial and technical expertise.
“We are thrilled to announce our new collaboration with Lallemand in North America, designed specifically to bring cutting-edge enzyme innovations to the baking industry,” says Kevin Hack, regional president of Nutrition North America at Brenntag Specialties.
“By integrating these advanced solutions into our portfolio, we aim to better support our customers in creating more sustainable, functional, and high-quality baked goods.”
Clean label functional enzymes
Lallemand is a global supplier of fermentation-based enzymes for the food industry. The company emphasizes clean label and sustainable innovation, serving applications in baking, plant-based foods, and other functional food systems.
Brenntag began its exclusive collaboration with Lallemand last year, covering Europe.
In August 2024, Lallemand strategically invested in Turkey-based enzyme company Livzym Biotechnologies to develop and produce industrial enzymes in Turkey.

“Our expanded partnership with Brenntag offers a strategic platform to extend Lallemand’s baking enzyme innovations to a wider customer base,” adds Lars Asferg, president of Lallemand Bio-Ingredients.
“With Brenntag’s robust distribution network and technical support, combined with our century-long expertise in fermentation and microorganisms, this collaboration is a natural synergy. Together, we aim to deliver high-performing, user-friendly solutions driven by global innovation and tailored to local needs.”
Brenntag business pipeline
In other North American activities, Brenntag Specialties expanded its collaboration with Royal Avebe last July, supplying potato starch and derivatives to the US food and nutrition market for the first time.
Earlier in May, Brenntag Group extended its distribution deal with Arla Foods Ingredients’ protein ingredients to Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia — Southeast Asia’s three largest food and nutrition markets. The deal spans a wide range of categories, including health foods, infant nutrition, and sports nutrition, as well as solutions for functionality in dairy and bakery.
Earlier this year, Nutrition Insights’ sister platform, Food Ingredients First, caught up with Terry Wagner, innovations and applications manager for the US at Brenntag, at IFT First in Chicago, US. Wagner told how the company is navigating food formulation, color, and flexitarian trends as consumers’ sustainability demands gather pace.
