Brainluxury lands US$8M for neuroscience-inspired sleep supplements
18 Feb 2022 --- Brainluxury has closed an US$8.1 million seed financing round for its brain health supplements. The US-based start-up positions itself as a “new category,” using inspiration from natural brain waves to target areas like sleep.
“Our key priority is the quality of our product,” says Schützinger, co-founder and CEO of Brainluxury. The company’s first offering is called Delta, which combines tryptophan, glycine, essential fatty acids and vitamins to improve sleep.
“We have to work really precisely. We need to mix the right amount of salts, amino acids, organic citrus juices, organic coconut oil and other key ingredients, all from vegan sources, together in the right sequence to maintain scientific integrity,” Schützinger continues.
The company also uses a cold pressure process to get the product’s functionality correct without sacrificing quality.
The funding round was led by Silicon Valley venture capital firm True Ventures. It also included capital from M13 and angel investors with a strong track record in biotech and life sciences.
Brainluxury has not specified how the investment will be allocated, but it is preparing to launch another product called Gamma and branded as offering “natural excitement.”
Intensifying deep sleep
Brainluxury highlights that the brain – which is 70% fat – needs a combination of oils that are essential for recharging and shaping its network during sleep.
The best time to restore this network is during deep sleep, which produces delta brain waves. Delta waves are linked to various benefits, including human growth and nightly restoration.
Therefore, the Delta supplement aims to bring consumers back to their natural sleep patterns and improve sleep quality by stimulating the body’s natural melatonin and serotonin production.
Ultimately, it helps customers fall asleep faster, extend the deep sleep phase and wake up feeling refreshed and recharged. It is not a sleeping agent – instead it provides the nutrition necessary for an intensified deep sleep period, according to Brainluxury.
Perfection in naturality
In addition to the other ingredients, Delta is comprised of fresh-squeezed juices and oils. The formula is activated by shaking the supplement and drinking it 15 minutes before bed.
“We created Brainluxury after realizing the way we’re living our day-to-day lives – with too much stress and quick fixes to solve it like melatonin, THC, power naps or even coffee – is actually creating a toxic environment for our brains from a neuroscientific perspective,” says co-founder Dr. Axel Bouchon.
“Our brains have evolved over millions of years. They are perfect in their natural state,” he emphasizes.
Over the past year, sleep has been a key consumer demand, exacerbated by the pandemic. Other nutritional products in this place include Gencor’s Levagen+, FrieslandCampina Ingredients’ Biotis SleepWell and Pharmactive’s Affron.
