Bioriginal Food & Science acquires oil and protein processor POS Biosciences
09 Feb 2024 --- Bioriginal Food & Science, Canada, a subsidiary of Cooke, acquired POS (Proteins, Oils and Starches) Biosciences, US from Canopy Growth. Bioriginal will become POS’s largest vendor and gain access to its oil processing, concentration and molecular distillation facility that produces value- added oils and proteins.
The acquisition is the latest of five this year carried out by Bioriginal in the last year, proceeding the purchase of Softgel, The Fatory, the Netherlands, Kroppenstedter Ölmühle, Germany and Cana, Japan. The terms of the current acquisition have not been disclosed because Bioriginal is a private concern.
Bolstered capacity
The current acquisition bumps up Bioriginal’s capacity to eight additional manufacturing facilities on two continents and 18 warehouses worldwide. Bioriginal is a major supplier of omega-3-6-9, organic protein, and nutraceutical products for the human and pet nutrition industries.
The plant-based processor, POS, formerly known as KeyLeaf Life Sciences, will operate independently. The company supplies more than 800 companies in more than 40 countries. It will provide R&D services to Bioriginal.
“POS’s processing technology combined with its team of scientists in new product development will play a key role in driving innovation for the human and pet nutrition industries,” Shannon Sears, president and CEO of Bioriginal explains.
Core capabilities
Bioriginal manages facilities throughout Canada, the US, Europe and Asia. It is the core organization in the Bioriginal group of companies, and a member of the Cooke family of companies.
