Bioiberica at SupplySide West: Showcasing “industry-first” solutions for skin beauty and mobility
14 Oct 2022 --- Global life science company Bioiberica is gearing up for SupplySide West in Las Vegas, US (Oct 31 - Nov 4), where it will spotlight the “industry’s first” hyaluronic acid matrix ingredient for skin beauty and mobility health.
A study presented during the annual Experimental Biology Congress in April found that Bioiberica’s Dermial ingredient delivers superior results for skin health over standard hyaluronic acid – a popular ingredient in the nutricosmetic industry.
Moreover, for mobility applications, the company’s Mobilee ingredient has been shown to support joint and muscle health by increasing the body’s synthesis of hyaluronic acid in synovial cells more than 200-fold compared to traditional hyaluronic acid.
The company will present its hyaluronic acid matrix ingredient against a backdrop of growing consumer awareness for holistic well-being.
“It’s a truly exciting time to be a part of the health and nutrition industry. Growing consumer health-consciousness continues to give way to innovative ingredients and new product formats while trends and consumer needs continue to evolve at high speed,” Jaume Reguant, healthcare director at Bioiberica, tells NutritionInsight.
“As a result of well-established trends, such as sustainable nutrition, holistic well-being and convenience, we expect to see more convergence between individual markets – such as beauty and nutraceuticals (nutribeauty), and healthy aging and sports (active) nutrition.”
Tapping into skin beauty demand
The matrix ingredient contains three naturally-occurring components – hyaluronic acid, polysaccharides and collagen – which work synergistically to elicit an enhanced effect superior to traditional fermented origin hyaluronic acid.
Dermial can be formulated for beauty-from-within supplements, with in vitro studies demonstrating its effect on increasing type I collagen synthesis by almost half – an action not observed with fermentation-origin HA.
“The skin and beauty market is witnessing exponential growth. Consumers are constantly seeking new ingredients and products to enable them to live long and healthy lives – including looking after their skin health by combatting the effects of pollution, sun damage, stress and more,” continues Reguant.
“Dermial is a hyaluronic acid solution with a difference, helping manufacturers breathe new life into their innovation pipelines and create cutting-edge products that nourish, hydrate and replenish skin.”
Pandemic-induced health trend
According to Reguant, US consumers are becoming increasingly active and engaged in their overall health and well-being. Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic has motivated people to make long-term sustainable lifestyle changes, tackling the upstream causes of ill health rather than dealing with illnesses as they occur.
“Tracking their health conditions and using data to make decisions are becoming increasingly important to consumers to maintain their health – from advancements in MedTech revolutionizing joint replacements in healthcare to wearable technologies making it easier for active consumers to track their health data,” he explains.
“On the surface, these technologies don’t interact with the nutrition market directly. But they’re helping to reshape what it means to be healthy and ensure good health at different life stages, which ultimately impacts the nutritional support consumers seek.”
On the joint health front, Bioiberica’s Mobilee has been shown to increase the endogenous synthesis of hyaluronic acid by synoviocites by 10-fold while also demonstrating greater efficacy than fermentation hyaluronic acid. This efficacy is achieved through the combined action of its components at a low dosage of 80 mg/day.
Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally produced by the body, present in joints, skin and other organs. Specifically, hyaluronic acid plays an important role as a lubricant in the joints, reducing friction between cartilage and supporting overall movement. However, the quality and quantity of hyaluronic acid the body produces decreases with age.
Future product development
Consumer purchasing behavior remains strongly influenced by science-backed claims, which is therefore a key consideration for Bioiberica as an ingredient developer.
“That’s why we place significant focus on and continue to invest in the science behind our branded ingredients offering, so we can continue to deliver cutting-edge ingredients to support our partners’ product developments,” says Reguant.
“At the moment, we have ongoing clinical trials for a number of ingredients and different health indications – so watch this space.”
SupplySide West
SupplySide West will be the first time Bioiberica showcases the most recent additions to its branded ingredients portfolio – DAOgest and Dermial for digestive health and skin and beauty, respectively.
DAOgest is touted as an ideal solution for dietary supplement manufacturers looking to develop products that specifically target consumers suffering from histamine intolerance or DAO enzyme deficiency. The ingredient contains the high-quality diamine oxidase (DAO) enzyme.
Bioiberica will also highlight new delivery formats for Collavant n2 – its native (undenatured) type II collagen ingredient for joint health. The company can be found at booth 4449.
