Life Extension unveils heart health boosting on-the-go supplement
01 Apr 2020 --- US-based supplements company Life Extension has launched a new ingredient that is touted as promoting heart health and blood flow, while boasting convenience and a pleasurable flavor. NitroVasc Boost is a berry-flavored powder that encourages circulatory health, endothelial cell function and nitric oxide production, the company states. Made with patented nitrosigine L-arginine complex and a polyphenol-rich chokeberry whole fruit powder, NitroVasc Boost on-the-go stick packs can mix easily with pre-workout drinks, water or other beverages, tapping into the convenience trend.
“The delicate inner lining of your arteries and veins is called the vascular endothelium. Endothelial cells produce nitric oxide, which promotes healthy blood flow and circulation. Unfortunately, endothelial nitric oxide production declines over time,” explains Dr. Michael Smith, Life Extension’s Director of Education. “Our formula encourages nitric oxide production, and the tasty, berry-flavored stick packs make it a convenient way to promote cardiovascular health.”
The nitrosigine L-arginine complex – which NitroVasc Boost is formulated with – is an amino acid that endothelial cells turn into nitric oxide using an enzyme called nitric oxide synthase. However, regular L-arginine doesn’t stay in the bloodstream very long. Nitrosigine is composed of bonded L-arginine, inositol and silicon – a combination that allows it to stay in your bloodstream longer. The company says that in a controlled clinical study, a single dose of this formula raised blood arginine levels for six hours, instead of just one hour observed when using standard arginine.

The product also includes 500 mg of the whole fruit powder of chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa), an edible fruit native to North America. Chokeberry is a rich source of polyphenol compounds, which encourage endothelial nitric oxide synthase activity. In a 12-week randomized controlled clinical trial, 500 mg of chokeberry whole fruit powder daily encouraged healthy vascular dilation and blood flow as compared to placebo, says Life Extension.
The product encourages nitric oxide production and the tasty, berry-flavored stick packs make it a convenient way to promote cardiovascular health. Each box of NitroVasc Boost contains 30 berry-flavored stick packs for a month’s supply of on-the-go circulatory, endothelial and cardiovascular health support.
Boosting the heart
With heart health being a major area of focus for consumers, many players have launched heart-boosting NPD. SternLife recently developed three new fiber-rich prebiotic powder supplements for product concepts targeting the gut health trend and its link to heart health and weight management. The “Heart,” “Slimming” and “fiber Plus” supplement concepts deliver ingredients for a healthy gut by combining soluble and insoluble dietary fibers. They can be used to fortify foods as well as beverages.
Euromed’s natural olive and pomegranate polyphenol extracts are touted as offering synergistic heart health and blood flow supporting effects, according to research. With a regular intake, the natural active substances produced by the Spain-based company’s supplements, Mediteanox and Pomanox, may also help reduce cardiovascular risk. Inspired by the phytochemical compounds found in the Mediterranean diet, Euromed hopes to provide the benefits of the diet in targeted supplements, curbing cardiovascular disease.
Meanwhile, Nutraceutical company DolCas Biotech unveiled late last year, a clean label blend of botanical extracts touted as being beneficial to the heart and liver. Derived from Italian bergamot fruit and Italian artichoke thistle leaf, Bergacyn is certified organic by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and by the EU. The blend boasts different dosage grades for boosted applications in food, beverages and supplements.
Lastly, dietary supplements player Lycored is increasingly focusing on stress relief via its supplement-ready tomato nutrient complex for heart health. Cardiomato contains six phytonutrients standardized to precise levels to induce a synergistic effect on cellular processes positively affecting cardiovascular wellbeing. The company has conducted a clinical research program to investigate the extract’s safety and effectiveness. Presently, Lycored has completed four controlled clinical trials involving a total of 271 participants and has investigated the benefits of Cardiomato on parameters relating to post-prandial stress and demonstrated a range of benefits for cardiovascular calm.
