Key takeaways
- Balchem’s new line of excipients, StabiliPro, is designed to stabilize probiotic formulas and extend their shelf life.

- StabiliPro excipients will be officially introduced at the SupplySide Global 2025 event in Las Vegas, Nevada, US.
Balchem is introducing StabiliPro, an excipient portfolio for stabilizing probiotic formulations and extending product shelf life. The new products will be featured for the first time at SupplySide Global 2025 (October 29–30) in Las Vegas, Nevada, US.
Balchem reveals it will also showcase results from a new study demonstrating StabiliPro’s functionalities, such as its ability to reduce probiotic overuse in finished product formulations.
The company underscores that many manufacturers currently use more probiotics than needed in their formulations to counter the amount lost through deterioration.
“The probiotics market is growing rapidly and shows no signs of slowing down, so solutions like StabiliPro are essential in ensuring that functional food, beverage, and dietary supplement innovators can achieve effective, cost-efficient formulations to meet the demands of today’s health-conscious consumers,” says Josephine Nakhla, strategic marketing and business development manager at Balchem, Powders & Cereal.
“Building on decades of particle engineering expertise, StabiliPro is an exciting addition to our already extensive portfolio of food and beverage ingredient solutions. This launch marks another key milestone in our mission to deliver trusted, innovative, and science-based solutions to our customers.”

Typical probiotic formulation challenges
Despite growing demand for probiotics, Balchem underscores significant formulation challenges for manufacturers innovating around gut health. These often range from regulatory hurdles and shelf life stability to research gaps in understanding the overall benefits of probiotics.
“The viability of probiotics is one of the most significant challenges, as these microorganisms are particularly sensitive to harsh processing and high-moisture environments. To address this issue, excipients can play a vital role in maintaining a probiotic’s integrity over its shelf life,” highlights the supplier.
In other upcoming SupplySide Global features, TopGum plans to debut its Active Lifestyle gummy collection — a variety of pioneering functional confectioneries. The company designed eight formulations that deliver complete “360-degree” pre- and post-workout nutrition in a convenient and tasty form.
At the show, Monterey Nutra will showcase its new ManeFocus lion’s mane extract powder, which it markets as the only lion’s mane ingredient standardized to 1% total metabolites.
Meanwhile, NuAxon Bioscience will feature the new formulation science behind its branded ingredient BacoZen, which blends bacopa and ashwagandha extracts for sleep, stress, and mood support.
Balchem activity pipeline
In recent Balchem activities, the company reached a milestone in Japan for its methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) OptiMSM. Japan’s Food with Functional Claims system approved the ingredient, marking the first time an MSM ingredient earned this designation.
Last month, clinical research supported OptiMSM for exercise recovery, particularly its effects on immune and inflammatory responses following long-duration aerobic exercise at a low dose of 1,000 mg per day.
