Arla Food Ingredients launches meal replacement concept featuring Lacprodan
10 Jun 2021 --- Arla Food Ingredients is launching a new concept featuring three solutions for meal replacement products. The concept is designed to highlight the versatility of the company’s Lacprodan range of whey protein and micellar casein ingredients and showcases solutions for ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages, high protein bars and protein shakes.
“Casein and whey protein are must-have ingredients in meal replacements, and these solutions tick all the important boxes in the category. They are packed with essential nutrients – not just protein but also lipids, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins and minerals,” says Laima Liepinyte, sales development manager, health and performance nutrition at AFI.
“They are also quick to prepare and easy to consume, making them ideal for the lifestyle needs of busy, active consumers. We hope they will inspire manufacturers to continue to innovate in a category that is increasingly important in the weight management space.”
Three solutions
The concept launch showcases three individual solutions that provide high protein content and carbohydrates, fiber, fat and essential vitamins and minerals:
RTD beverage: A ready-to-drink beverage with 100 percent native micellar casein isolate – a slow-digesting protein for long-lasting satiety. It combines heat stability and low viscosity with a neutral taste that is “easy to flavor.”
High-protein bar: With a blend of casein and whey protein for optimal texture and satiety, this nutrient-rich bar maintains its soft texture throughout its shelf life.
Protein shake: A blend of slow-digesting micellar casein and fast-absorbing whey with a neutral taste that is easy to flavor.
The company emphasizes the importance of solutions for weight management and holistic approaches to weight loss, which are increasingly lucrative market areas. This, combined with the demand for natural ingredients, is the driving force of the meal replacement segment.
Innova Market Insights recently found that whey protein and casein account for over 80 percent of protein ingredients in RTDs, powder shakes and bars marketed as meal replacements.
AFI driving progress
This year, Arla Food Ingredients launched Lacprodan Premium ALPHA-10, an alpha-lactalbumin product touted as helping infant formula manufacturers reduce production costs without compromising safety or quality.
It is the company’s first protein ingredient designed for dry blending – a process that allows manufacturers to reduce energy usage and production costs. It also provides greater flexibility to produce more recipes from one base powder.
Last year, Arla Food Ingredients released Lacprodan HYDRO.Rebuild – a hydrolyzed whey protein ingredient clinically proven to counteract age-related muscle mass decline. The launch was aimed specifically at the APAC region, where an increasingly aging population is showing a strong interest in functional foods and supplements.
