Ancient Nutrition launches fermented eggshell membrane collagen for personal care and gut health

12 Oct 2021 --- Regenerative agriculture and superfood brand Ancient Nutrition is unveiling its new line of collagen peptides marketed as delivering results in as little as one day. The collagen peptides are designed for maximum absorption as they feature a fermented eggshell membrane collagen ingredient that increases bioavailability.

The brand’s collagen peptides have been clinically shown to support healthy hair, skin, nails, joints and gut. The peptides also improve the appearance of crow’s feet, reduce joint discomfort, help joints recover faster and reduce collagen degradation. Additionally, the brand’s 100% DV vitamin C and probiotics support a healthy immune system.

“The size of the peptides and the method of processing has everything to do with collagen’s efficacy, activity and benefits. While heat, chemical and enzyme processing works to reduce collagen particle size, the resulting collagen peptides can be difficult to digest and utilize properly,” Dr. Josh Axe, co-founder of Ancient Nutrition, tells NutritionInsight.

Eggshell membrane explained
Collagen peptides produced through natural fermentation – such as fermented eggshell – have greater bioavailability, explains Axe.

“The fermented eggshell membrane collagen ingredient is produced using microorganisms that ‘pre-digest’ the collagen, making it highly soluble and easy-to-absorb.”

Studies on human nutrition have shown that the digestive tract rapidly absorbs fermented nutrients and compounds, including collagen, adds Axe.The brand’s line provides support for healthy hair, skin, nails, joints and gut.

The fermented eggshell membrane collagen ingredient in the collagen peptides uses a pair of microorganisms – bacteria and yeast – that creates proteolytic enzymes to break down proteins, making them effective in a small amount, he continues.

The “glue” of the body
The collagen peptide line is also available in tablet form. It comes in unflavored, vanilla and orange varieties, with the latter being particularly for immune support.

“Collagen peptide supplements are popular because they can offer many body-wide benefits” notes Axe.

“One reason why collagen is so important for overall wellness is because it makes up approximately 30% of all the proteins in the body. Collagen is quite literally the ‘glue’ that holds our bodies together – helping to form and maintain connective tissues found in our skin, nails, hair, joints, gut, ligaments, tendons, skin, organs and more.”

Sustainably sourced
Ancient Nutrition’s collagen peptides are formulated with sustainably sourced fermented eggshell membrane collagen from chickens raised in the US and grass-fed, pasture-raised bovine collagen.

“In formulating the collagen peptides, collagen and amino acids are broken up into shorter chains of proteins called peptides. They are also referred to as hydrolyzed collagen or collagen hydrolysate,” explains Axe.

“Peptides have been especially noted for being small enough to help maximize absorption, so they can make a difference when regularly supplemented with.”Ancient Nutrition’s collagen peptide line is formulated with sustainably sourced fermented eggshell membrane collagen from chickens raised in the US.

With the launch of collagen peptides, Ancient Nutrition furthers its commitment to its Regenerative Agriculture, Nutrition & Climate Health (RANCH) program and the brand’s farm, the Center for Regenerative Agriculture & Sustainability based in Tennessee, US.

“Through our regenerative agriculture practices, we make sure that we’re giving back to the soil instead of just taking from it because we want to be part of the solution, not the problem,” says Jordan Rubin, co-founder and CEO of Ancient Nutrition.

“That’s why all of the accessible waste material and by-product from the manufacturing process of Ancient Nutrition’s fermented collagen membrane ingredient is composted and used to grow organic food crops, some of which become ingredients in Ancient Nutrition products,” he concludes.

Through the RANCH program, the brand reduces greenhouse gases by avoiding emissions, reducing waste and sequestering carbon dioxide already in the atmosphere.

Industry players have shown interest in collagen and its comprehensive benefits. Last month, a study by Florida State University found PB Leiner’s Solugel collagen peptides reduced joint pain in active and middle-aged populations. Meanwhile, Ajinomoto Health & Nutrition released an upgraded Indigo Marine Collagen brand, featuring new flavors and supporting the skin, hair and bones.
