Expo West 2026: Biostrips presents oral dissolving strips to counter pill fatigue in supplements

Amid a growing “pill fatigue” among supplement consumers, Biostrips offers an alternative delivery method — sugar-free, vegan oral strips that dissolve on the tongue. These are designed for efficient delivery with microencapsulation. At Expo West 2026, the company’s CEO and founder, Joanna Bacchus, introduced its strips for glucose support, hormone health, clean energy, and immune support and discussed the potential for these delivery methods to access new market segments, such as supplements for toddlers and pets.

I'm here with Joanna Baccus from BioScrips, and we're at Expo West 2026.

Thank you for joining us today, and I'm really curious to learn from you what you think, which consumer demand is driving the most innovation in your space.

Definitely the demand for non-pill formats.

So when you look at the studies, by 2030, over 70% of consumers are preferring to consume non-pill formats.

So that is 100% what's driving.

Looking at new innovative, more easy to use convenient formats like strips.

Awesome.

And as you mentioned, traditional supplement market has been dominated still like pills, capsules, those kinds of formats, but I love that dissolvable strips like the ones that you're showcasing here are gaining attention because they bypass water, they offer rapid absorption, all those things.

How are consumer preferences around convenience and efficacy reshaping those delivery formats and wellness?

Actually, for 2026, Amazon has helped reshape the compliance part for because right now on Amazon they are delisting supplement companies that don't have the certificates of independent testing in certain categories and that's continually what we're seeing.

Consumers are demanding more transparency.

They're demanding to see that their products, what's on the label is actually in the product and so this is where the strip format because it has precision dosing, it allows.

For having that that the opportunity to be able to be independently tested to make sure that the quality is there, it's huge.

Awesome, yeah, interesting and another thing like I we hear more and more that consumers are looking for integrated wellness solutions how important in that area is precision dosing and bioavailability also to build trust and long term engagement with formats like these strips.

So with, with the micro encapsulation.

Technology you can put multiple ingredients on a strip.

That's what I love.

I love the most about it.

And so it's again, the strips do not replace every single gummy capsule out there.

So what I want everyone to know is that that doesn't mean that it can replace every single supplement you're currently having.

So it has to be ingredients that of course can fit and be micro encapsulated onto a strip, but it allows you to have multi ingredient formulations in one strip, and it's individually wrapped, so then it's very easy.

Free to take on the go, so there's the convenience, the ease of use, and most importantly, the taste.

So if done properly, you wanna have make a creative product that actually has an amazing flavor profile.

It's one of the most difficult parts of the strip technology is to mask the active ingredients.

So the most key thing that we're really proud of is we have our own flavors and we really, really focus on the taste.

So you're wanna kind of keep back coming to it every single, every single time, and that encourages.

Consistency because a lot of consumers have a hard time keeping up with their supplement routine.

Either they forget or if it's not going to taste good, they're not going to keep going back.

So we want to also encourage consistency and ease so that it can incorporate into anyone's routine.

Yeah, interesting.

I think daily, like taking your supplements every time is very important in that sense.

Yeah, and another thing that we see consumer demand for is simple everyday tools as you mentioned that help with consistency.

Instead of having like a multi-step regimen, which is like more encompassing, of course, how do you think this is influencing innovation and supplement design and consumer education?

So it's, it's forcing brands to take a look at out of their supplement category which part of their category could they shift into a more like dissolvable format like strips.

So because they have to pay attention to what consumers are looking for and so I actually think it's been more and more brands are gonna be adopting.

This delivery method because people are looking for a non-pill sugar-free alternative and that's key and the best part is they also want something that they can take it on the go and make it easy to use.

So I feel like it's gonna be pushing more brands to look into this into this delivery method.

Awesome.

Finally, I always love to end with a question like looking into the future for the next few years, so I'd love to hear from you.

What do you, how do you see the on the go supplement formats like pieces.

Palpable strips, evolving within the wider supplement space as you're mentioning already, and what shifts do you think will matter most for consumer adoption and trust in that shift, so, so I work a lot in the innovation side.

I make my own formulation, so I could tell you what I'm really excited about.

So, we launched bio strips and microstrips to be for adults, but there's also the opportunity to make it for toddlers where there's no choking hazard.

There's a white space in the toddler.

Category from 1 to 4 for children ages 4 to 12, so you never have to fight your kids to take their vitamins ever again with these formats.

If it tastes good, they will go back for more.

There's also an opportunity in the pet space.

So I had the, the Shih-tzu that I had to put in a headlock to take her vitamins.

So I know every pet parent out there would love to have something that dogs would love that it, it, it sticks to their tongue and then they can't spit it out again and no more having to fight with her.

With their children, with their furry children, so there's also an opportunity there and there's even an opportunity in the functional beverage space as too.

So we just innovated one of our first prototypes where it actually can convert any, any liquid or into a functional beverage that you can take on the go in a beverage strip.

So there's so many different applications for this technology, it's quite endless and I'm super excited to be part of the process.
