CPhI: Roquette talks Qualicaps acquisition expanding solutions for oral dosage capsules
01 Mar 2024 | Roquette
Roquette was on the show floor of the CPhI trade fair in Barcelona, Spain, presenting its expanded oral dosage portfolio through its acquisition of Qualicaps. At the event, the company presented new solutions, including Lycatab, a pregelatinized starch used as a filler for gelatin capsules and a binder for direct compression. Roquette also highlighted its Microcel microcrystalline cellulose, which is used as a filler or binder, as well as a fiber source in various oral dosage forms.
This is Benjamin Ferreira on the show floor of CPHI in Barcelona, and I'm joined by Christine Miaan, global market manager of Nutra and OTC here at Roquette, and , could you please start by telling us a little bit about what Roquette is showcasing at this year's show?
Absolutely, we are so excited.
We just completed the acquisition of Qalaats, and this really helps us expand our already.
Extensive portfolio and oral dosage and also helps us expand our global footprint.
In addition, we're also launching 3 new products, at CPHI this year, and, these products are within our moisture protection portfolio.
So they're like a tab CTLM, which is a partially pre-gel starch.
We also have Microcell one.
03 SD.
We have Microsol 113 SD, and these are both microcrystalline cellulose, and this really enables us to offer our customers a comprehensive range of low water activities.
So we're excited for.
And what is the significance of launching in Spain this year at CPHI?
So REC's mission is is always to to solve.
The toughest challenges that formulators face in drug delivery and so especially when you consider products like vitamins and probiotics, which are sensitive to moisture, especially when you take a look at probiotics as an example, we're seeing an impressive growth of probiotics in the last few years, and so because of this, you know.
These, new products that we have will really help us, support the formulators in these markets.
We should also be considerate of the fact that moisture is something that can really determine our impact, stability, safety, and efficacy of the end product.
So we're here to support that and probiotics have been around for a long time.
What's different about these solutions and also what are your further expansion targets?
Yeah, no, thanks for the question.
So in the past.
Moisture management has always given way to functionality, it's always given way to flowability as an example, compatibility, homogeneity, and these are really critical considerations for formulators.
Other products have been launched, of course, but they're so specific to, , delivery formats that are very, very specific, so.
Earlier this year, actually, we just launched Eliol Protec, and that is a co-processed excipient of starch and mannitol.
And so all of these 4 new excipients combined help to add to our portfolio of moisture protection.
Christine, thank you very much for your insights.
Thank you so much, Benjamin, and stay tuned because who knows what we have up our sleeves.
