Baobab as a trending superfruit

06 Dec 2018 --- Nexira launched a baobab product as the company’s latest superfruit. “It combines well with other Nexira’s superfruits thanks to its antioxidant properties and high nutrient content. Organic certified and sustainably harvested in Africa this new ingredient will be a perfect source of inspiration for your new product developments,” the company writes. The baobab superfruit has been enjoying an NPD resurgence, boosted by renewed interest in the digestive health and low GI space, as well its strong potential for use in the sports nutrition market. Baobab – which is touted as offering low GI appeal, a high dietary fiber content and for being rich in vitamin C – has seen annual growth of 53 percent in NPD, according to Innova Market Insights data.

Innova Market Insights data has allowed us to great insight into APAC. The number of new astaxanthin launches in the region has been growing at a phenomenal rate with 19 percent CAGR between 2011 and 2016. By market share APAC represents 21 percent of this new product development. That tells us that it is a hotbed of activity and especially in the areas where people are interested in, we have discovered that skin health is number one, followed by general health & wellness, followed by eye health. That gives us a tremendous opportunity to leverage the portfolio that we have to create value added products,” says Vincent Woods.

The mainstreaming of sports nutrition

23 May 2018 --- NutritionInsight spoke to Innova Market Insights analyst, Florencia Moreno Torres, at Vitafoods 2018. At the show, Innova Market Insights noted a 14 percent average annual growth in sports nutrition launches featuring plant protein (global, 2013-2017), but also a continued CAGR of 10 percent in whey protein over this period. “There’s still room for growth in three areas in sports nutrition,” she says. “The first one has to do with flavors and the fact that there is so much innovation and competition in the market. Consumers won’t just settle; they’re looking for novel and improved flavor profiles. Secondly, everything that has to do with transparency, clean label and sustainability if possible.”
