In brief: Business news
Following the FDA’s announcement of increased flexibility on infant formula products, infant formula from nine countries is expected to arrive in the US in an estimated 520 million full-size, 8 oz bottles. Due to the infant formula shortage, these flexibilities have proved beneficial in enabling the temporary introduction of nutritionally appropriate infant formula products into the US. Considering this, the FDA is implementing access to instructional resources to help educate concerned parents and caregivers on the imports. The FDA is creating “Names to Know” graphics featuring the label pictures and details about imported formulas to help parents and caregivers recognize these products.

In brief: Research and studies
PLT’s AlvioLife ingredient – a patented combination of Boswellia serrata and Aegle marmelos – was found to help users feel better, breathe easier and exercise more. AlvioLife’s blend of natural botanical extracts works via mechanisms that help balance the inflammatory response. Therefore the ingredient supports respiratory and immune health, perceived immune function and well-being. The six-week-long study showed reductions in reported upper respiratory tract symptoms and improved psychological well-being.
Based on clinical trial results, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) outlined guidelines for improving Type 2 diabetes in obese adults. The procedures include improving diet, physical activity and behavioral therapy to achieve a 5% weight loss. The ADA also recommended a high frequency of counseling – no less than 16 sessions in six months – to achieve a 500 to 750 kcal per day energy deficit. Metabolic surgery was recommended as an option to treat Type 2 diabetes in overweight people who do not achieve durable weight loss or improvement in comorbidities with nonsurgical methods. Several trials have shown larger improvements in glycemic control with surgical versus medical management.

During the analysis, a majority of the participants (83%) reported that CBDistillery’s tincture had some level of improvement on their quality of life. Additionally, nine out of ten participants reported that they would recommend CBDistillery’s Daytime Synergy 500 mg CBG + 500 mg CBD tincture to others dealing with mild or temporary anxiety. study found that the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which helps more than 39 million people avoid food insecurity, may help prevent child maltreatment. The 14-year nationwide study found that states with more generous SNAP policies – and thus more people participating in the program – had fewer children involved in Child Protective Services (CPS) and sent to foster care. Results showed that a 5% increase in families receiving SNAP benefits reduced a state’s CPS and foster care caseloads between 7.6% and 14.3%. The researchers noted that the findings should be of interest to state policymakers who are concerned about budgets.
A US-based Ohio State UniversityResearchers from Aston University, UK, found that people who regularly eat fruit are more likely to have better levels of positive mental well-being and are less likely to report depressive symptoms. According to the researchers’ findings, the frequency of fruit consumption is more significant to psychological health than the total amount consumed over a typical week. The study also discovered that people who consume low-nutrient savory snacks like crisps are more likely to report higher anxiety symptoms. People who frequently snacked on nutrient-poor savory foods (such as crisps) were more likely to experience ‘everyday mental lapses’ (known as subjective cognitive failures) and report lower mental well-being. A more significant number of lapses was associated with higher reported anxiety, stress and depression symptoms and lower mental well-being scores.
US-based researchers from the University of Georgia showed that women often have greater rates of illness while living longer on average than males. A diet rich in pigmented carotenoids, such as those found in yams, kale, spinach, watermelon, bell peppers, tomatoes, oranges, and carrots, is now suggested by recent research from the University of Georgia as a way to reduce these greater incidences of sickness. These foods play a “crucial” role in minimizing cognitive and visual decline. Women retain vitamins and minerals in their bodies is one of the factors contributing to this sensitivity. Women often have more body fat than males, according to Hammond. Many dietary vitamins and minerals are significantly sunk by body fat, which provides pregnant women with a helpful reservoir. However, as less is available for the retina and the brain, women are more likely to experience degenerative issues.
