Unique health benefits of Balchem’s Vital Trio touted in latest consumer study
Balchem unveils positive findings from consumer research focused on its Vital Trio formula. This innovative product combines three ingredients — K2Vital Delta vitamin K2 MK-7, Albion Minerals chelated magnesium bisglycinate and vitamin D3 — to support immune heart and bone health.
Balchem reveals that, following an encouraging initial response in North America late last year, it expanded its survey to include three European markets — Germany, Italy and the UK. The study engaged 841 participants who actively purchase vitamins and supplements and found a strong purchase interest of 78% in the formula.
The Vital Trio was particularly noted for its uniqueness and perceived health benefits, surpassing other concepts with 59% of consumers acknowledging its distinctiveness and 72% recognizing its health advantages.
“We first developed the Vital Trio concept to explore how these three on-trend ingredients could be combined to deliver even broader health benefits and superior efficacy,” says Thies Ripcke, the director of business development and strategic marketing for K2Vital at Balchem Human Nutrition and Health. “Magnesium is the fastest growing mineral in US retail, gaining attention and popularity for its sleep, relaxation and mood-boosting benefits.”

“At the same time, demand for vitamin D continues to grow steadily — especially during the winter seasons. The challenge is that the sensitive nature of vitamin K2 can present stability issues when combining it with minerals. But thanks to K2Vital Delta’s advanced and patented microencapsulation technology, which offers enhanced stability and bioavailability in all environments, the Vital Trio successfully overcomes this problem.”
Focus on unmet health needs
Balchem highlights that Vital Trio was lauded for its convenience as a single solution addressing multiple health needs. Moreover, 74% of respondents reported that the formula meets previously unmet needs and 85% touted its comprehensive benefits for bone, heart and immune health.
Additionally, more than half said they were willing to pay a premium for its quality.
Furthermore, Balchem says the formula’s success is underpinned by the scientifically validated synergistic effects of its components.
Vitamin D and K are proven to support bone and cardiovascular health in several recent studies and magnesium has been shown to enhance these benefits by supporting bone formation and activating vitamin D for bone homeostasis, while also contributing to cardiovascular support and immune cell function.
“This new market research demonstrates the untapped potential of the Vital Trio concept to help brands stand out in the crowded market,” Ripcke underscores. “Through projects like this, we aim to help our partners differentiate their offering by showing how they can leverage the synergies between our flagship ingredients to craft appealing solutions that resonate deeply with consumers’ needs.”
