21 Apr 2016 --- Japanese supplier Taiyo has now been given Non-GMO Project Verified status for its all-natural ingredient Sunfiber range.
Sunfiber, a galactomannan-based fiber, is also 100 percent gluten-free, certified Organic, Kosher and Halal and suitable for vegetarians.
"We have received verification for Sunfiber (which includes our full Sunfiber line up – Sunfiber R, Sunfiber AG, Sunfiber ST). This covers all Sunfiber sold in the US,” Scott Smith, vice president of Taiyo International told NutritionInsight.
“We are proud to achieve Non-GMO Project Verification, which validates Sunfiber’s quality and the integrity of our supply chain,” he added. “This confirms that Sunfiber is produced in compliance with rigorous best practices for GMO avoidance, including segregation and traceability to prevent contamination.”
Sunfiber is a soluble, transparent and tasteless dietary fiber with strong prebiotic characteristics. It helps reduce occasional constipation and diarrhea, and return stool to a normal healthy state. Taiyo note that Sunfiber also offers “a comfortable, healthy satiety effect by slowing gastric transit time.”
The need for this certification was led by customer demand: "Although our product has always been non-GMO and we have provided our customers with statements to confirm this, over the past years we have seen a growing interest by our customers in having the Non GMO Project Verification,” Smith explained.
“We chose to get Sunfiber Non-GMO Project Verified because we respect people’s right to know what is in their food and dietary supplements. We believe this verification offers the highest transparency about GMOs.”
“Our customers appreciate the extra effort taken to get the certification. We expect many of our customers will immediately take advantage of this and get their own products using Sunfiber verified as well.”
This news continues the company’s progressive start to 2016 – as reported by NutritionInsight on 04 Feb 2016): “This Non-GMO Project Verification is one of several important milestones achieved recently. Earlier this year, Health Canada approved Sunfiber’s claims related to its effectiveness in treating symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), as well as its ability to relieve intestinal issues related to childhood constipation.”
Smith concluded by giving details of the company’s future plans to NutritionInsight: "Taiyo is always striving to provide its customers with high quality products supported by clinical evidence, approved health claims, consumer outreach and education, as well as co-promotional activities (as per our Portal), etc."
"We have also been working on getting verification for a number of other Taiyo ingredients, however, each of these are dealt with on individual basis.”
