Taiyo Expands GRAS Status of its Partially Hydrolyzed Guar Gum

21/02/07 Taiyo has announced that it has expanded the GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status of its Partially Hydrolyzed Guar Gum (PHGG) through an independent panel of scientific experts. The expansion gives food and beverage manufacturers the freedom to add this beneficial ingredient, marketed as Sunfiber, to an even broader variety of consumer-friendly foods at a usage level limited only by cGMP.

Sunfiber is an all-natural, soluble dietary fiber that has been clinically shown to help lower glycemic index, improve mineral absorption and maintain digestive health. Known as the “invisible fiber with visible benefits,” Sunfiber can be incorporated into all foods or beverages to increase fiber content without affecting taste or texture. It also exhibits excellent stability with respect to pH, heat and freeze/thaw conditions.

Sunfiber PHGG was previously deemed GRAS by an expert panel of independent and qualified scientific professionals for use in a list of specified foods at limited usage levels, but the “general food use” approval opens doors for unlimited food formulation opportunities.
