Soccer Legend Tab Ramos, Subway Restaurants Team Up to Fight Juvenile Obesity Among Latinos

25/03/08 SUBWAY Restaurants announced that it has teamed up with Hispanic soccer legend Tab Ramos in a national effort to combat juvenile obesity among Latinos. The joint initiative called, "Scoring a Goal for our Youth," will take Ramos, a national soccer Hall of Famer and former Olympian, to various cities around the country to speak to inner-city youth groups about the need to eat well, be active and follow one's dreams.

As part of this agreement, SUBWAY Restaurants, which sponsored Ramos' 2005 Hispanic Heritage Award for Sports, is providing seed money and logistical support to help launch The Tab Ramos GOAL! Foundation.
"Since retiring from Major League Soccer in 2002, my aim has been to help deliver a message of education through sports," Ramos said. "By partnering with SUBWAY Restaurants to kick off The Tab Ramos GOAL! Foundation, this dream has now become a reality."
To that end, this year SUBWAY Restaurants will underwrite Ramos' speaking tour to Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago, Miami and New York City, as well as provide funding to the inner-city youth soccer clubs he visits. This initiative is in keeping with SUBWAY Restaurants' long-term commitment to promoting active lifestyles among Latino youth, as evidenced by its annual sponsorship of the Hispanic Heritage Youth Award for Sports, which is now in its sixth year.
