SmartyPants Vitamins extends supplement line with the launch of Baby Probiotic
15 Oct 2021 ---- US-based SmartyPants Vitamins is launching a liquid probiotic for babies up to the age of two, aimed at reducing their upset stomachs. Seeking to be as mess-free as possible, the Baby Probiotic product is available in a glass bottle with a built-in dropper that releases controlled drops of liquid when turned upside down.
“This liquid supplement includes clinically studied strains to promote digestive comfort for [babies] and 1.6 billion colony forming units of probiotics in just six small drops,” Aletta Mayorga, director of nutrition science at SmartyPants says.
The liquid formula is positioned to support digestive and immune health in babies aged up to 24 months old.
Beneficial gut bacteria
Baby Probiotic is an option for both breast and formula-fed babies, the company outlines, noting its product is a multi-strain supplement that supports the production of beneficial gut bacteria.
Babies’ intestinal tracts are populated with probiotics through human milk or other nutritional sources that contain probiotics. Sometimes, an imbalance between “good” and “bad” bacteria occurs, which results in excessive gas.
Excessive gas can cause discomfort, fussing and crying, with stomach issues affecting up to one in five babies.
Baby Probiotic contains probiotic strains P. pentosaceus KABP-041 and B. longum KABP-042 that are clinically studied to help soothe fussiness and reduce crying due to an upset stomach, the company notes.
Earlier this year, SmartyPants Vitamins launched the formulas “SmartyPants For” Healthy Sleep and Healthy Kids Sleep.
Last year, Unilever acquired SmartyPants Vitamins, in a move that signified its expansion into the growing health and wellness industry.
