Sirio bolsters gummy manufacturing capabilities at US facility
20 Oct 2023 --- Sirio Pharma’s US gummy manufacturing facility, Best Formulations, is set to enhance its capacities by establishing a specialized R&D laboratory, an automated production line and comprehensive bottle packaging solutions. The company anticipates achieving full operational readiness by the end of the month.
Sirio is a global nutritional supplement and personal care manufacturer with expertise in traditional and plant-based formulations, including nutritional gummies.
“The significance of improving our US manufacturing capabilities includes global manufacturing footprint optimization, improving knowledge and know-how of the US market, expanded global innovation capabilities and technology sharing. The enhancement will also allow for a starchless manufacturing process in addition to the current starch mogul manufacturing process,” Eugene Ung, executive manager at Best Formulations, tells Nutrition Insight.
The California-based Best Formulations facilities hold a California Drug License, an NSF Good Manufacturing Practice Certified for Sport and ISO 22716 GMP certifications.
The facility upgrades
The enhanced gummy production encompasses a specialized R&D facility, a streamlined, automated production process and bottle packaging solutions. The automated starch-free gummy production line will allow for the manufacturing of various types of gummies, such as those made from gelatin, pectin and gelatin-pectin blends.
The in-house R&D laboratory is equipped with pilot-scale machinery, which includes a gummy depositor that can be integrated into the production line for scaling up. The incorporation of pilot-scale equipment enables the production of sample batches for assessment on equipment closely resembling the production machinery to accelerate the time-to-market.

Best Formulations is set to develop its sugar-free and plant-based options to expand its current texture, flavors and color production capabilities. To offer flexible and customized packaging solutions, the facility will also supply comprehensive options for bottle packaging.
Innovation and market knowledge
Ung outlines the accelerated “speed to market” in the US with the expanded facility. “We will soon be able to offer improved knowledge of the US market, innovation and brand differentiation.”
He points to Sirio’s “variety of standard and stock formulations with established stability data and the ability to do more complex and innovative products.”
“With our expertise in delivering tailored solutions, we remain committed to driving innovation,” adds Edward Shneyvas, head of R&D of Americas at Sirio Pharma and chief scientific officer at Best Formulations.
Sirio and Best Formulations will also be exhibiting at the Supply Side West, set to take place next week in Las Vegas, US.
Last month, Sirio introduced its newly-developed chewable medicine for colds, oral care and urinary tract infections, with gummy innovation.
