Rousselot’s StabiCaps softgel capsule technology receives a Brazil patent
Collagen and gelatin brand Rousselot, by Darling Ingredients, has been granted a patent BR 112019001260-5 from Brazil’s national patent office for StabiCaps, its gelatin technology. StabiCaps’ design improves the stability and release profile of softgel capsules. The technology also has patents from the US and EU.
“StabiCaps technology offers significant advantages in stability and efficacy for nutraceutical producers, along with the attractive, natural appeal of gelatin,” says Pierre-Albert Thomas, Rousselot’s functional ingredients director.
“Securing three major international patents, including this latest one in Brazil, underscores the unique value of our technology. We are excited to see how this recognition will open up new opportunities for dietary supplement producers in the rapidly evolving Brazilian health and wellness market.”
US and EU patents
The StabiCaps stabilizing technology was granted a patent by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) last year. Discussing USPTO’s decision, Rousselot told Nutrition Insight that customers see patents as adding value to a product. The company highlighted that companies need to be truly innovative with their offer in order to be granted a patent.
The European Patent Office granted StabiCaps a patent in 2022. At the time, Rousselot told us that StabiCaps stands out in the way it minimizes the risk of crosslinking reactions in soft gel production.
According to the company, crosslinking is a common challenge in capsule formulation. By tackling this challenge, StabiCaps addresses product stability and improves the release profile of softgel capsules.
